It is "ok" of he goes. Nobody is here saying "hell yeah bugger off". But we are saying it's not worth jumping off a cliff over. He's been amazing and revolutionzed our leaky defense but the team has grown around him. We would not be better without him but I don't think we'll be amazingly worse. Probably about equal to what we are now, a top 4 level quality side constantly competing in the top 6 of the league. Everything beyond that is just excessive pessimism for the sake of it.

Him and kane are the only 2 players that would start for any team in world football. Lets not forget that

Written by professional Spurs hater matt hughes. Fresh from making up the story about other teams being annoyed at us possibly playing an fa cup semi final at Wembley. The guy is full of shit.
Looool whenever there’s a story we don’t want to hear, the journo is accused of hating Spurs.

He's obviously going. I just can't believe we'd be stupid enough to not pay him £150K a week which is clearly commensurate with his abilities, given the fact our turnover will be £400M odd next season and therefore we can comfortably support a £200M PA wage bill.

As a side note, Will be interesting if Poch cuts him out of the action, what with the World Cup approaching.

the club isn't stupid....last bad decision was probably Carrick.
As @Hercules has noted, seems like the agent is moving the goal posts

Honestly we need to start paying our players better or we'll always lose them to other clubs. If you aren't winning trophies then you need another reason for them to stick around. It sounds shit but that's the way football is nowadays.

Almost every single one of them deserves far more than what they're currently getting and our rivals will continue to buy them from us because of this. They've steadily built a life in england so why would they want to leave? Man united/city or chelsea can triple his wages? Sounds good to him probably. It's a harsh reality that is becoming all too common with our team. Berbatov, Modric, Bale, Walker...who's next? Kane? Eriksen? Alli?

People might not like this but it's just a bonafide fact.

It is not everything that is bs. His agents rubbing EVERYONE up the wrong way! Let’s see, but I wouldn’t bet on him being here next season. Unless there is a change of attitude & heart. Educated opinion.
everyone includes toby himself? hope verts is going to have a word with him:)

i think their demands are justified and would be fulfilled by the club if they have won some trophies for us

Whether they are justified or not, the club can’t afford the wage bill to shoot up by £100m suddenly. That’s just the plain truth at the moment. If Toby got £150k a week then a hell of a lot of players in the squad would want equal or significantly more.

If it’s true that the club is going to offer Kane £200k+ then that may change everything anyway. But Levy has some real work to do to balance the books.

hope the new stadium (naming right, tickets, other events etc) would increase our revenue to boost up our wage bill, or can we include a yearly pay rise in the contract?
from hercules's post i guess toby was willing to accept the previous offer but it seems that the agents screwed up by moving the goalposts

And who would know what Daniel will be offering the players may I ask? It's not that contracts will be done infront of thse tv cameras! For all we know Levy will be upping all main players a good rise in wages/bonuses going ingo the new build.

I'm a big fan of Toby but at 29 is he more important than Jan, Kane, Alli, Eriksen? Pay him £150k a week and they'll want the same, as will any new signing. Players come and go, its a fact of life, we can't be held over a barrel. Daniel knows that better than anyone.

If true going to be along summer! Unfortunately like it or not the realtity of the situation is we bill our selves as a top 6 club yet pay bottom 6 basic salaries (bonuses not included). Obviously I don’t know what individual players are thinking but I would imagine a lot of them are looking around at the likes of the players at clubs like Everton, Leicester, stoke, Crystal Palace and are fed up that a lot of these lesser players are taking home a lot more money a week from there basic salaries. You really can’t blame them if the likes of the other top 6 clubs or big European clubs come calling offering to double there basic wages that they want to leave.

Take the Kane situation for example he is now looked as one of the best players in the world. Given that don’t you think we will need to pay him the salary to reflect this? Which probably in thecold light of day at the moment is £200k + a week. Same applies for Toby he is thought of one of the best players in his position in the world reality is £150k a week is probably the going rate for a defender thought of like that.

Disappointing if true. Smacks of a small club mentality. £150k is most definitely market value for a player of his standing, it's not like he's asked for £250k. We need to shift our stance on this issue sooner rather than later.

I’ll take what the figures are with a pinch of salt. We need to keep Toby regardless whether he’s as good as before or not. For this team to progress we need consistency. Toby is brilliant and bedding in a new cb next season is the last thing we need. We have a real chance of going for the league if we keep this team together next season.

To be honest we should be looking to raise the wages of our squad, all round, however 150k for a CB is still ludicrous money.

If we pay that, then we have to be paying Jan, Lloris, Eriksen, Kane, Ali the same or more. Just those 6 players could cost us our record transfer fee every year.

If Toby doesn't want to sign, fair enough, we can't force him, but just don't sell him to a PL rival.

If the new stadium is supposed to put us in line with the big boys and we can't pay £150k to one of our best players, some people at the club are deluded.

Anyway I don't think this is over quite yet. Some high profile contract negotiations like this tend to get a bit messy.
