Is Kane now better than what Bale was in his last season here?

Yes, I think he is.

Bale of course was capable of things no one else could do, but Kane just keeps on scoring, every type of goal you can imagine, week after week and now, year after year. He has reached a level of consistent, dependable brilliance that no other Spurs striker has achieved since Greaves.

It’s hard to choose between them, but For me, Kane, and no regrets.

This thread shows there are still a few of us old fogies alive and kicking.
Long may we continue to enjoy our great club. Shame there's no McNamara's band nowadays:D

I go right back to the early 60’s and it’s interesting comparing players in each era. I can’t go past Greaves who was just a brilliant natural inside forward and scorer. A player who was so good he would be a star anywhere, anytime. The next is Glen Hoddle - better than Gazza, Ardiles, Eriksen just an unbelievable talent. Better than the Brazilians. When Billy Nick talked about the glory game, that was Hoddle. A thing of beauty. Lastly Kane. He is a superb marksman and probably the best all round center forward I have seen in nearly 60 years of football. Better than Klinsmann, Linekar and a host of other center forwards I can think of.

Favourites? Mackay, Gilly, Perryman. Soft spot for Gazza, Ossie and Gareth Bale.

Do you remember The Duke or were you not watching football that early. He was an interesting CF as was Bobby Smith who scored lots of goals for us. Liked watching him wait for the keeper to catch the ball and as he landed just shoulder charged him into the net. (Twas legal back then) Must admit neither were at Kane's level though.

One of the rare advantages of age is that I can put this genius top of my list :
Greaves
Hoddle
Kane

I am truly fortunate that at the beginning of my love for this club I witnessed one of the world's greatest strikers and I am now having those wonderful memories revived again every time I see Harry Kane score a goal. Two of the most natural predators to ever grace a pitch.

I genuinely struggle to restrict a list to 3 players having followed Spurs for close on 60 years. I have so many favourites through the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s 90s and this century so I will just say that currently it is Kane, Eriksen and Son plus there have been far too many to mention over the years and I still hold all of them in high regard.

Why not blanchflower mate? Just curious because hes regularly regarded as our greatest player

I watched Spurs regularly in the 50s and 60s. His peak was probably in the mid 50s (he was already 28 when he joined us from Villa in 1954). By the time of the double season, he was already way past his best. He was our most successful captain but nowhere near our greatest player. He was a very cultured player but was very slow. IMO he was the weakest player in the double team and we were improved when John Smith replaced him at right-half.

Different World class players in different times (outfield players only!)
off the top of my head! That i have seen play for us.

In the 60s
Jimmy Greaves
Dave Mackay
Danny Blanchflower
John White

In the 70s
Alan Gilzean (played 60s and 70s)
Martin Peters
Alan Mullery (played 60s and 70s)
Glenn Hoddle

In the 80s
Chris Waddle
Ossie Ardiles
Glenn Hoddle

In the 90s
Paul Gazza
Gary Lineker
David Ginola

In the 90s/00s
King Ledley
Jurgen Klinsmann
Teddy Sheringham

Luka Modric
Dimi Berbatov
Gareth Bale
Rafa VDV

Now
Harry Kane
Jan Vertonghen
Toby Aldeweireld
Christian Eriksen
Mousa Dembele

I can't get down to 3 in any 10 year period!
When I look at that list, It shows me what a big club we have always been, even if the giant has been asleep for long periods.
That is further reinforced by the amount of fans we have had at Wembley.

What a great list! I agree with all of these but would add Cliff Jones, Steve Perryman, Cyril Knowles, and Darren Anderton.

For many years, I considered Greaves and Mackay to be our best players and Perryman and Knowles to be my favourite players. How can you compare players that are exceptional for a season or two with those that make their career with us? It is easier to rate players over a career than just a few seasons and hope that in a few years time we will be looking back and rating the likes of Kane Dele Eriksen and co as our best ever.

As I've said, I didn't see him, but from what I know from others who did, it was his intelligence, tactical wit and ability to improvise and be a "manager on the pitch" that made him such a great captain.

I could name dozens but Jennings and Stevie Perryman were brilliant for our club and as a left field choice I loved Alan Gilzean the most unlikely looking footballer I have probably seen but master in the air. He used to have a fag at half time , how things have changed !

My favourite is Rafa - he was everything a Spurs player should be.

I couldn't condense the others into two more slots.

Ouch - no Kane. I saw all of those and loved big Chiv but I reckon Harry eclipses them all...and he is just a lad.

I have enjoyed watching both but the balance has to tip in favour of Greaves...I thought long and hard how to describe why I think this and the best I can offer is that Harry Kane scores goals whereas Greaves used to also create them as well. There will be a final ball through to Harry and he will despatch it into the net with a natural instinct that thrills the soul but there would be a pass to Greaves and he would slip like a shadow past a couple of defenders with the ball tied to his boots and then nonchalantly guide it past the keeper. He had a certain finesse to his game that is difficult to describe...I don't know if anyone who has also seen both players on a pitch would agree but for me Jimmy had me mesmerised which is slightly above thrilled. Close call but Mr Greaves takes the prize.

A good description but then they are so different in style. Greaves was really a No 10 not a center forward but the best natural goal scorer I have seen. And you are right Jimmy was a maker of goals. Kane is a classical center forward who scores all kinds of goals. We had to wait a long time for an heir to big Martin Chivers and Kane is a monster.
