I took mine when he was seven (as you can see in my avatar) and he had no interest in football, but I had to get him to the old WHL before it came down. He has a little more interest now but still little compared to me at that age, by which time I must have been over 30 times, fed on the team of Hoddle, Ardiles et al.

Funny but it brings me to a thought I had last night.

Imagine being a Gooner (shudder) and taking your kid to their first game last night, comforted by the fact you are playing nobodies and your child will see your team win comfortably and forever be a Gooner (shudder) , and making them watch that load of donkey turd.

They are gonna be devastated when their kids ask for Kane shirts for their birthday.

Same for my boy. He's 10, or is he 11, who knows, around that age. Taken him to around 5 games, but he has absolutely no interest. Watches youtube on my phone for most of the match. Had choice seats for Liverpool, quality game, wasted on the lad. Sadly when i force him to be interested he just asks me inane questions about everything going on in the match, which is bloody distracting and annoying. Kids can't live with them.....
Finally i accepted his desicion with the proviso that if he ever took an interest in football he only support spurs. Anyone else and he has no father. Hard but Fair. I'm releasing a new book on fatherhood if anyone's interested pm me.

I'm 33 but my dad refuses to take me any more which i think is super unfair, he's such a dick.

As they get older I find I have to end up looking after my Dad rather than the other way round. They just wander off.

First took my son to a Europa League game when he was about 6 and half. Seems that he struggles more to get up the next day for school now he is 11 than he did then.

I was 9. So I took my eldest at that age and my youngest as well. Trouble was the youngest was a Man U supporter, so I took him to Spurs friendlies until he decided to change allegiance. We're going to the Huddersfield game next Saturday :)(y).

When they can sit through a whole game on TV. That’s what my dad did with me.
I’m guessing if I took her to Wembley I wouldn’t get 90 minutes of...
‘Can we watch Paw Patrol now?’
‘Can we watch Paw Patrol now?’
‘Can we watch Paw Patrol now?’
‘Can we watch Paw Patrol now?’
‘Can we watch Paw Patrol now?’
‘Can we watch Paw Patrol now?’

My sons 4 have debated a couple of times about taking him to Wembley this season but much like your daughter think he may want to go home after 10 minutes. I reckon 6/7 is probably a good age for first game.

Honestly wouldn't do it to them till there old enough to want to go, and in saying that I would take them to a smaller game first. Am I the only one that is concerned about the language at a game? :cautious:

Mate, unless your kids are educated at Gordonstoun or similar, I think they will already have heard most of the words already. Sad reflection etc etc........

Went to my first match probably at 6 or 7 and have to say I loved it at first, but remember getting distracted quite easily and restless in the second half. I reckon about 7 is a good age but it obviously depends on the kid and how their attention span is. Baring in mind you're probably at your seat for 2hrs, maybe longer depending on how early you go in, and that's quite a long time for little kids to be stuck in one place

As for the swearing, they'll either not understand it anyway and anything they do understand, they clearly have heard already so they haven't learned anything new.

My eldest is 8 took him to Wembley for the WBA game earlier this season. He enjoyed the day out I think but he was bored during the match and has no interest in football :(.
I went to my 1st match when I was 8 as well but I begged my dad to take me for ages.
Different people are in to different things I suppose, I won’t push it any further unless he or his younger brother shows an interest

I took Luka Van der Bale (my son) when he was about 9 or 10 - no real interest before that and now 13 years later he's obsessed and arguing with everyone on here.

Ryder on Paw Patrol is such a dick.

"I know it's the middle of the night pups and I woke you all up but I only need Chase and Sky for this job. The rest of you aren't required and to be honest Rocky, I don't even know why the fuck you're here"

As far as I know it’s the only programme broadcast anymore.
Mine is nearing 2, and her most uttered words are "Peppa" and "Ben and Holly".

I'm gonna say 7. That was when my dad and grandad took me. I'd also suggest start with your small local team, as the crowds at a big premier league game might be a bit much at first. Afternoon game too. I see these poor little bastards being dragged through the crowds at 10pm by their dad's after an evening game. I'm sure I read on here someone took their 6 and 8 year olds to a CL match, and the poor kids were so dog tired that they missed their first class and were given detention... Which is so irresponsible and unfair on the kids.

My eldest was 6 when we took him to his first game - Watford v Spurs pre-season friendly in 2012
His first competitive game was the 2-2 draw with Basel in 2013.
That was an interesting one because the walk down Seven Sisters Road was a bit manic with their hardcore fans being brought along by the police. I don't think he ever felt like he wasn't safe though.
He went off it for a while after that, but he's been with me a couple of times to Wembley. He used to like being down near the front at WHL because it was close to the players, but now he prefers up in the gods at Wembley because he can see the game unfold and spots all the tactics and formations.

He doesn't like being in crowds because of his height, so he panics a bit when it comes to busy trains/tube etc
