I watched Spurs regularly in the 50s and 60s. His peak was probably in the mid 50s (he was already 28 when he joined us from Villa in 1954). By the time of the double season, he was already way past his best. He was our most successful captain but nowhere near our greatest player. He was a very cultured player but was very slow. IMO he was the weakest player in the double team and we were improved when John Smith replaced him at right-half.
Thats the first "different" comment ive heard about Danny Blanchflower. Many actually rate him as the greatest ever. Perhaps it was because of his philosophical nature and him being the captain of the double-winning side.

A good description but then they are so different in style. Greaves was really a No 10 not a center forward but the best natural goal scorer I have seen. And you are right Jimmy was a maker of goals. Kane is a classical center forward who scores all kinds of goals. We had to wait a long time for an heir to big Martin Chivers and Kane is a monster.
Different game back then. Greaves could do it all, no question, but he had far more space to do it. Wouldn't say Kane is a classical centre forward though. He has far more to his game, and although I loved Martin Chivers, Kane is both a better a striker and a creator than Chivers.

Pre EPL era

Hoddle
Gazza
Thomas (Danny)

EPL

King
Berbatov
Lamela

May not have been the best but they were my favourite players.

Players like Modric I only really appreciated how good he was for us after he left!

Thanks BulletSpur . It's an honour to be in your list .

I'm basing my answers on players I've seen live rather than on TV because I think it's a truer reflection of ability...

Modric
King
Bale

In that order
Sadly no Kane but I live in France now so I've never seen him live.

Ledders, Bale and Kane for me. I used to love Sherringham but i never forgave him for going to Man U, though i get why he did it. Otherwise he would be in front of Bale

Yeah, I'd probably have to say that. I mean, I loved Waddle, Ledley, Berba, Modric and others, and right now Eriksen, Kane, and Vertonghen, but it comes down to those three. If Ardiles was playing now, with the protection that players get, he would be just unbelievable.

I agree with your other choices also.. I see what what you see.

No Hoddle is further down my list. Really good player but not dominant especially in big games. Ossie was the key player who allowed Hoddle to do his stuff. Contentious I know but as someone who loves flair payers above all for me Hoddle was never in the very top bracket as a player. The three I have picked were dominant players

Never in the top bracket as a player, look at the goals he scored and and created .two many negative people around Glenn in the England days and sadly amongst some spurs fans
