Clearly you like to look on the bright side of things in general, but if we were to let him leave for the clause, he could presumably go anywhere he wanted to, including picking up 200k+/pw at Arsenal or Chelsea who'd both love to have him I'm sure. Personally, I don't like that option at all.

I guess if we sell him this summer, it'll only be one of the Manchester clubs he goes to rather than one of our closest rivals, but either way it will be a shame to see us strengthening another team around us again. Given he's absolutely built for this league, and this league has all the money, I really feel that's where he'll stay.

And I'm not convinced about the sweeping statements of him being 'redundant' due to injuries nor that a few games for Ipswich present Carter Vickers as any form of replacement for Alderweireld's quality yet.

Ironically, his injury seemed to come from the one moment he's really sprinted after a ball (not sure what he was up to doing that so far up the pitch vs. Madrid..) because he doesn't really rely on his pace particularly and so is obviously a prime candidate for a defender who could play deep into his thirties.

So to write him off as a potential '30 year old with a poor recent injury history' is pretty naive in my opinion. Vertonghen is now nearly 31 and playing arguably the best football of his life, so it's highly likely that Alderweireld as another intelligent defender could have an amazing 2-3 years in front of him at least.

If he leaves because we can't afford him then I can understand it - assuming we'd explored every possible option - but lets not sugarcoat it, it will be shit and leave us a poorer squad for it, because he's a really good player.

Not sugar coating it at all, just pointing out the alarmingly obvious, that we’ve already done our succession planning and done it incredibly well to mitigate the downside of the situation dramatically should we end up having to seek him either this summer or next.

I think he's completely in his right to play hard ball. So long as he is professional in training and gives 100% on the pitch then the rest is business. He's not "one of our own" he's just a pro we bought in. If he's not on board with the project then we'll find someone who is.

The general feeling is we would rather not sell Toby but if he fails to re-up with us, we might as well cash in on him this summer. If he has a good WC with Belgium, that can only help to add on to his value. We have 2 really talented young CB's in Foyth and Sanchez ( add in Dier as experienced CB), if we can add a another young talented LCB, we should be alright moving forward.

Do you think he'll sign if we offer to throw in a lifetime supply of Uppercut Deluxe Matt Hair Pomade? Don't let the creamy appearance fool you, Matt Pomade really packs a punch once applied to your hair, giving ample grip and hold to assist in achieving a great look that lasts.

I reckon he'll snap Daniel's stumpy little arm off at the elbow if that's written into the contract.

Doesn't prove anything. Many other factors involved.

Unfair and unbalanced comparison. We were playing at WHL, Wanyama was fit etc He's an important part of our team but lets not make it seem like we're conceding goals simply because he isn't playing.

Why do people think a players value will increase after a world cup. It 4-8 games why would that influence a players value.

His PL & CL performances is all that counts. Then again that maybe explains Sissoko's fee.

The release clause is only available for a 2 week period. Can’t we just say the fax machine is broken and wait for the fortnight to blow over?

If that's true then levy can just go on holiday and change his voicemail on his phone to say he's with Uncle Joe on his boat topping up the tan on his bald head, back in a fortnight.
