The general feeling is we would rather not sell Toby but if he fails to re-up with us, we might as well cash in on him this summer. If he has a good WC with Belgium, that can only help to add on to his value. We have 2 really talented young CB's in Foyth and Sanchez ( add in Dier as experienced CB), if we can add a another young talented LCB, we should be alright moving forward.
We don’t want to be alright, we want to be great. Europe’s best defender crucial to that.

Writing seems to be on the wall, would love to be wrong but feels quite a bit like Walker last year. Happy we have Sanchez, Dier and/or Foyth to come in.

Great player for us, his form definitely helped elevate us to where we are. Can't feel too angry with his leaving, just another in that line of fantastic players who graced the club.

We wont allow it to drag out that long....He signs up or he goes this summer....

Would someone on the continent be willing to pay more than £25m and wages that are up there with the top defenders in mainland Europe? A 29 year old no less. Is his profile that high?

If we are just going to sell him to the highest bidder in the PL is it any better than a year later for £25m. It's not like it's a free. Why improve rivals ahead of a key first season at the new stadium?

I have a feeling this one will get resolved however...

Heart says resign him, give him the dough, he's been imperious.

Head says, he has looked heavy in his running for 12months+, he looks like someone fighting some middle age spread, the extra weight on his past injuries will tell in the next 24months. Take the cash and roll it into a couple of exceptionally talented youngsters.

One of the world's best defenders currently? No, we can all see that's not true.

He isn't back to what he was yet. He may never be. Poch's comments concerning his recovery and slow introduction indicated this was a career-threatening injury.

If we can get someone to pay premium for prior Toby while getting current Toby, why would we not want that?

Milan paid 35m for 30 year old Bonucci.

Not sure why he's not getting the same amount of hate from fans that Walker did. Guys only been here a few years, been injured most the season, has come back looking disinterested and is in a contract dispute with the club right in the middle of a hugely important time for the club. Yes he's great but there's a slight whiff of arrogance here for me, it's like he thinks he can demand whatever he wants because otherwise we have to sell him below market value next year.

We've coped okay without him, Sanchez will be even better next year. I say sell him for good money in the summer and use it to buy de Ligt. He'll eventually take over from Jan and our CBs is sorted for next decade.
Probably because Walker went to Poch shortly before the FA Cup Semi final, when we were still in the title race and said he wanted to leave, when he could have waited until the season finished, Toby is just negotiating a contract with higher demands than we want to pay.

Completely agree with bringing in de Ligt as his replacement. It will be sad to see Toby go, he is the 2nd best defender in the league IMHO (Verts being the best) but if he wants to leave for higher pay and/or a better chance at winning things, time to move on unfortunately.

Would love him to stay as his presence has pushed us to two title races, but i for one am a hugeeee fan of Sanchez. It's incredible how good he is for a 21 year old. I think we'd be able to cope. If we must sell this summer I think we should invest in a really good CM to help Dembele and Winks.

Yep, but he's still prone to errors a bit more than Toby is. Plus toby is a lot better on the ball at the moment which helps our style.

With P 14 L 3

Without P 24 L 3

Not sure on goals but we really haven’t missed him. Infact our 2 worst defensive displays were with him West Ham and Rochdale. Personally have a feeling he is on a downward curve. Maybe be wrong but just a gut feeling.
Wasn't he also involved in the Man u goal that cost us 2 point's !

Don’t we have Wanyama who when match fit is a really good CM ?

isn't Atlanta Yid pretty credible? Ties to the big boss?
If so, this could all be moot.
Does @dovahkiin have an opinion on that "ITK"?

Would be a huge body blow to the Club to lose another of the best defenders around just as they come into their prime years.

According to an article with Poch speaking about Verts on Daily Mail site, Toby couldn’t finish training on Thursday. Sounds like he’s still not 100% fit.

This is his last big contract, his agents are right to get him the best possible deal. We should pay him in line with the top players at the club. Wages with everyone are going to have to increase over the next two years.
We need to keep him end of not even up for debate. One of the best defenders we’ve had in the pl. The bloke needs to finish career here.

We've apparently offered to pay him in line with the top players at the club. End of.
