Is Ford actually any good? Seems to be only play well when the forwards are dominating.

We’ve been awful, Lars back row is nonsense, but Owens has been borderline disgraceful.

He was down as the man to learn from in terms of officiating but he’s been so one sided today. Disappointed in him

I could’ve complained a lot about our kiwi ref today but sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up and say you’ve been out classed.

Thing is, reffed correctly, Jocks would still probably have won but it would currently be 25-20 at best for them. Thought Owens was better than this to be honest

Owens was worse in the France-Ireland game. He really wasn't bad today.

What was your main problem with him today?

Been done tactically and technically, both as a team and as individuals.

We have won 24 out of 25 games, but I think a game like this today has shown up weaknesses. For years we haven't been great at the tackle/breakdown. The talk is of a lack of a 7 but it seems a collective problem in the English systems. The packs(s) are poor at supporting the ball carrier, lacking numbers to secure ball and individually we don't have the pace to get their first. The clearouts are weak compared to the opposition and we also get counter rucked far more than other teams.

I don't think we can continue blindly on effectively playing three locks and Robshaw at 7. Across the pack though we just need a few doses of power. It's all very one paced and needs ball carrying.

They weren't the only problems though, the idea early on seemed to be to maul them at every opportunity - Scotland though had seemingly anticipated this, worked hard on it, and after a few go's at it we switched to a muddled game plan. Couldn't maul, were getting done at the breakdown, and so some wild kicking that just allowed Scottish counter attacks. They exposed our rush defence as well, especially in midfield where there were so many gaps.

Above all else though, intensity. Scotland just looked like they wanted it more and fully deserved the win.

One of the worst performances in many a year, just because I cant think of one player who comes out of that with any positives. To a man they were outplayed.

I don't like how, for both teams whoever play, he lets a load of messing around happen at the breakdown. It can be someone trying a legal steal with the ball carrier clinging on and he lets it go on for several seconds (usually the team in possession eventually clear him out by that point and so the defensive team don't get the turnover), or it could be illegal where tackler is off his feet all over the ball and again he lets it go on for seconds slowing down the ball before eventually he calls 'lost now' or it does find it's way out. I find that annoying in general, it leads to a scrappier game.

The one time he was stickler for the rules and ultra generous was the intercept, so I can see why that one would annoy some people. However that is no excuse, we were shite, and probably still lose, even if that would have got us back in it.

No complaints. Scotland put in a proper shift. Care being pulled up was a turning point at a pivotal moment in the game but not going to whinge about it. Scotland deserved it.

TBH I prefer that to the officials who give a penalty the split second you lose your balance when competing for the ball or don't give you any time to roll away. As long as he's consistent on both sides, and I thought he was today, then I don't see how people can complain. There's always going to be one or two decisions that'll go against you. He gave England the benefit of the doubt a couple of times in the second half in other decisions.

Scotland were just way better at the breakdown today and committed more men than England and got their just rewards.

I think it depends what you like, some people like a real contest/battle at the breakdown but I think if teams know they are likely to get whistled off the park for mucking about then they don't tempt it (or, actually more like if they know a ref is laissez-faire then you get more mucking about as per this game) and the ball comes out quicker and you get a faster more flowing game.

I was just speaking about his reffing style in general though, and it didn't impact the game. England have clear issues they need to work on in that aspect.
