My guess would be that he fears English teams winning both the CL and the EL and 4th place missing out on the CL as a result.

I believe if an english club wins the europa league, there will be 5 english clubs in the champions league.

No play-off for 4th placed teams in England, Spain or Germany anymore.

But if the CL winners are also English and finish outside the top 4...
For example; if we come 4th and Chelsea and Arsenal come 5th and 6th but win the CL and EL respectively then it's City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in the CL next season.

As said the rules changed. But you do get a larger share of the cl tv pot the higher you finish. Which can work out to be a fair chunk.

5 teams from each country maximum. So say we finish 4th with Chelsea and Arsenal 5th and 6th but Chelsea win the champions league and arsenal win the Europa then 4th place would no longer get in the champions league

Chelsea has to go to Barca and win to get to the next leg
