Because they aren't.

Gatland blaming the TMO instead of the ref doesn't mean he's accepting the better team won. It's just blaming something else.

But the TMO isn’t the ref. How many calls was that TMO responsible for, 1?

By the way you, and the rest of the English nation are carrying on, Owens made a bad call at every single breakdown.

Then when you throw into the mix that you were comprehensively outclassed against Scotland but against us you scrapped a 6 point win and didn’t score a single point for over 60mins then it becomes a totally different situation to your game against Scotland.

Look, if Gatland was coming out saying Garces this Garces that then I’d 100% be with you but all he talked about was 1 decision made by a guy who isn’t even on the pitch who made the wrong call (seeing as he said Watson’s hand got to it first) I mean, even World Rugby apologised to us.

What you’re effectively saying is if we had beaten you 12-6 and you were on the wrong end of that TMO call then Eddie Jones wouldn’t have mentioned it and I think we both know that’s bollocks.

Which is why I mentioned the performances more than anything else.

I know it's unusual both on Ireland and Wales but it's possible to question a red without also playing the 'plucky underdog with everyone against us' card.

England were crap yesterday. Scotland were excellent. As Eddie Jones said.
But you're complaint about the ref was how he refereed the breakdown, and it was England's fault the breakdown was so bad and messy because you committed so few to it when you had the ball. It wasn't messy when Scotland had it. Owen's was consistent in how he dealt with it and that's all you can really ask from him.

Scotland flopped over the ball consistently whilst England were pinged very quickly a lot of the time.

Don't think he was consistent on it at all to be honest.

I think Eddie may have mentioned it but also accepted the better team won.

Gatland simply can't accept the better team won so only talked about the TMO.

Not sure why that's so hard to get your head around.

All this is actually distracting from talking about the rugby itself so not sure why you're focusing on it.

Anyway...glossing over that minor rugby incident at Murrayfield on Saturday....

On the club rugby side, my Quins are really starting to ruin my life. Another humbling home defeat this week, this time to the mighty Newcastle. Our players look shot, our tactics look non-existent, and in amongst all of this we've just extended our DOR's contract.

Fucking awful stuff. I'd almost rather support Ospreys. Almost.

We beat the Cheetahs by 1 point. Have some of that. Second from bottom.

Big win that.

Quins have now lost four in a row in the league. It's a very good job that London Irish are utter balls this season otherwise we'd be staring down the barrel of a relegation fight.

Time to give Adam Jones free reign. He’ll turn it around.

Joking aside I’d love for him to cut his teeth at Quins then come back and coach the national team in a few years.

Quins are to big of a club to do that though it’s pleasing to see you’re treating g him well and everything I hear and read is that he loves your lot.

We’re looking for a new coach, obviously, BBC say we’re looking at Fleck (ex SA centre) who’s at the Stormers now.

Honestly if you want Jones to develop as a coach Quins is the last place you want him.

Our selection of coaches are an absolute joke at the moment.

It's like we've appointed Gross, Ramos and Santini all at once.

You should make a move for Rob Howley. Top coach.

Ryan Wilson cited for eye gouging. Presumably the citing officer will do more than say "have you done anything wrong? no? off you go then..."

I only saw one replay of it but it looked fairly blatant. Sometimes players just grope around the face generally and accidentally get the eye but looked like Wilson knew exactly what he was doing.

Seeing as the officials missed it, it's a bit of a shame Hughes didn't just smash him.

Did Hughes say anything to Owens at the time?

No idea to be honest.

My understanding is that if none of the officials see it, then even if a player does mention something, it's generally left to the citing committee.

I am quite surprised though that nobody saw it at all. It was a fairly obvious incident and I'd have thought that at least one of either the touch judge or the TMO should have pointed it out to Nige (who was presumably following the game at that point).

Yeah, I think Nige needed some help there as he clearly didn’t see anything.

It wasn’t good but in terms of intent I’ve seen worse. The Thomas Francis one in the England Wales game a couple of years ago was more clear cut in terms of intent. I don’t think he knew whether to hit him or scratch or slap but the intent was clear with this one it’ll be interesting to see what happens as I’m not 100% on whether he’s doing that deliberately. I think it falls more into your first category where players, when having a little scrap, can sometimes unintentionally make contact with the eye when they’re just generally messing around with the face area.

It’s not great though and I’ve only seen it the once.

Wilson has been cleared of any wrong doing and Eddie Jones was verbally and physically assaulted on a train after the game. I get the Wilson decision, slow mo makes it look worse when you watch it in real time it’s not that bad.

Sad to hear Jones getting shit. He’s an inflammatory character but you’ve got to be some kind of prick to physically abuse him, though giving him some verbals (as long as it didn’t go to far) I can understand seeing as he himself likes to dish it out.
