see i just don't see where this pace is that people keep referencing. maybe it's my imagination but i'm sure that van aanholt and the big norwegian lad absolutely breezed past him at some point today, i can't really recall many examples of where he's beaten a player down the outside either. sheer athleticism isn't the be all and end all but if you don't have top level technique or intelligence to compensate then i don't think you have the ingredients of a top quality full back.
This is what worries me. I thought he was supposed to be quick, but he’s not showing it at all. Trippier is quicker at the moment. Is he carrying a niggle, is he worried about not lasting the 90 if he gives it 100%?

In my honest opinion and probably why I have trouble defending him is that I just don't see that he is a 'good player' making some silly mistakes that everyone insists. Nothing to me suggests he has the necessary technical ability or footballing intelligence to play in our side.

He wasn't a rough diamond we picked up from tranmere, he is 25 year old international we bought for 20+m who has been playing for psg, I don't buy the whole he needs coaching/time to develop into a player .. He is making fundamental school boy mistakes every game.

I just see nothing to work with. The best I'm hearing is that he runs quite fast. (even that is arguable).

The thing is, regardless of his 3 foul throws, i think normally all of his throws are foul throws and the missed chance which wasn't that bad as it was slightly behind him, but still....

He did make that last ditch goal saving challenge. Give the guy a pre season and let's judge next week when he has some premier league experience. He's definitely the joker in our pack, but i'm hopeful he will come good and be consistent. Time will tell.

So over the past few years we've had the following players deemed "not good enough" for us by the geniuses on here:

Kane
Son
Walker
Rose
Hugo
Dembele
Alli
Lamela
Trippier
Aurier
Sissoko
Dier

And those are just off the top of my head. Weird how all these "shocking" players that are "championship standard at best" have kept us in the top 4 pretty much constantly for 2 and a half seasons now.

I guess we should all just keep our opinions to ourselves on this football forum.

Can't you spot the differences between how Aurier is as a player compared to the players you've listed?

I think the issue with Aurier is that there have been critical outcomes from his play in his short tenure with us...red cards, penalties.

In his defence, Poch actually threw him in the deep end from the getgo, and Aurier delivered some pretty good performances initially. I just think we're seeing more of his game now, and there are definitely some problems, which affect the team as a whole. I'm sure Poch can improve his game to a degree given time. We don't know how much, or how quickly.

Right now, for me at least, he's not our first choice RB. And that's not a judgment on his ability. That's a risk assessment regarding his consistency, and what's best for the team.

He was shambolic today.
And the throw-ins....makes you wonder.

He better get his act together fast.

https://talksport.com/football/tott...hettino-jokes-star-could-get-him-sacked-after

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has joked Serge Aurier could get him the sack after the right-back set an unwanted Premier League record.

Ivorian star Aurier was called out three times over foul throws in Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, and many supporters were embarrassed by the player’s performance.

Rather than criticise his player, Pochettino was happy to laugh off the incident but insisted he would rectify the matter.

He told the post-match press conference: “We are going to practice every day! I promise that to the fans too. Every day this week! I'm sure they are very disappointed.

“The first one he tried to get the ball into play quickly and then maybe made a mistake. You know it was probably a little bit too much pressure from the referee, similar to Dele. When Dele does something he gets the focus, it was the same with Serge with the ball. But I promise everyone that we are going to practice every day.”

Asked if he’d spoken to Aurier about the incidents, he joked: “Of course, yes!

“I said 'come on, you are going to get me sacked!' It looks like we are so bad and we don't practice the throw-ins.”

I think as spurs fans we are to quick to make a rash decision on new players .
Give the guy a pre season under poch , the premier league always takes time to adjust too .
If come this time next season ,then maybe I may think the same as everyone.

Great post.

Unfortunately a lot of people still don't understand.
