What's all this "best defender in Europe" talk?! At the moment he's not even the best at Spurs.

Toby doesn't want to leave, he wants to be paid as his ability and comparative players in the league are paid. Seems fair really

hertyid:
He’s not causing problems. There is
no unrest. If he does go it will be in the summer because Poch subscribes to the Fergie model: the dressing room is owned by the manager and anyone who questions his authority must be removed. If Toby isn’t prepared to commit to Poch and to Spurs then he will be gone. However I’ve heard nothing to suggest that is likely.

Not questioning the ITK - but how does this fit with the stories earlier that this was not about wages?

It seems that whenever someone says its not about money, its always about money...

Pretty spot on really. However, someone needs to have a word with his ridiculous agents! HY is on point!

Wages are a part of it, but he also wants to have a chance of silverware. Our expectant summer acquisitions ‘may’ be causing him to reconsider his stance.

The only person that needs to have a word with his agent, is Toby.

If Toby wants to stay, he tells his agents that.

I get that there is a valuation problem - but if you want to stay at Spurs, you have to accept you are not getting the same wages as City or United. At the same time, if Spurs want to be a big club, they have to adjust the wage scale - and all indications are that is what they intend to do, starting this summer.

Certainly, if the squad qualify for CL again, that makes it a lot easier for everyone.

And, as with Walker, we'd have much more of a chance of challenging for stuff if players (or their agents) stopped throwing their toys out the pram mid-season when we're still competing...

Or, Just slightly optimistically, winning either or both of the cup competitions we are still in might help

He was posting pics on twitter during and after the Palace game congratulating the boys.

means nothing, but nice to see nonetheless.

Come the new season I am pretty sure all the players that are wanted by Poch will have been given new contracts commensurate with our expected increase in income.
If we can't/don't meet Toby's expectations then I think he will be gone. If we do and, as @Hercules says above, we get more improvement in the squad I'm optimistic he will sign a new deal.
All in IMVHO.

Yes, but on the flipside, we refused offers from premier league clubs.

Toby will get interest from clubs outside the Premier League.

That was my point.

Man City, United and Chelsea would all offer more money (to club and player) than Madrid and Barcelona - they just don't go nuts for 29 year old centre halves.

I don't understand 'he doesn't want to leave'. If he doesn't sign a new deal the club will be forced to sell him this summer, so by not signing he is forcing his own departure.

no-one focusing on this part of herc's update.....?

"Our expectant summer acquisitions"

Me likey. Thanks as always herc. If he can see our ambition (if indeed we get our targets) then realistically there's no reason for him to leave as we're even stronger. that's why i see champs league qualification this year as absolutely vital, not necessarily in terms of recruitment, etc, just for current player perception. Going a long way in this season's competition can only help too.

He's obviously playing the waiting game, ITK alluded to it so many times.

Well yeah, we've been negotiating with him for a year and a half. There's only 3 months left of the season left so they either get it right on the next round of talks or he's gone.

EDIT - unless we really are offering him peanuts, but I can't believe we're that stupid.
