My first game at Wembley this season and I thought it was a very average performance.

Really disappointed in Dele Alli's performance, too many flicks and didn't seem to give it 100%. He should be fighting for his place against Juve. I'd actually drop him and start Son, Lamela and Eriksen.

What do you think Lamela did better then Alli today to deserve starting against Juve?

Considering Alli got the assist for sons first and Lamela, however good he's been since he's back, did the grand sum of nothing

It was a bit of a going through the motions performance which is understandable with the games we've had and have coming up.

Son was MotM (with or without the goals)

A constant threat, beating his man for fun. (and some that weren't his men too)

We saw the best of dele and the worst.

Functional performances all over the pitch, some crunching tackles from Davies, some loose stuff in midfield. Ball from Kane was alright too...

Lamela gave us one of his hurried/careless performances. But still ran around like a nutter.

Good to have Jan back for the balance he gives the defence (and composure obviously)

Would've liked to have seen a bit more a Moura, as I am excite ;) to see him fully up to speed and linking with our better players. You can see his appreciation of our better players around him just popping off little passes and running into position take a return.

I gave Dele a below-par rating earlier in this thread, but watching MotD just now, that might have been harsh. He was at the very least a headache for them most of the day.

I don't think I've ever known a player who can do some of the fantastic things Son does one week, but look like such a bumbler the next. Even today there were a couple ofttimes where he forgot to take the ball with him. He really is a fucking curates egg of a player. On balance though, he's having a vey good season and this was another one you'd file in the "best games for us", I just felt slightly sorry for him that the rest of the team were a bit flat around him, and also that he seems one of the soft targets for Poch's rather un-meritocratic treatment when it comes to selections and subs. If he'd been given the games earlier on the season, when Alli was ambling around like a sulky teenager who's mum's confiscated his game boy, he'd probably be in the 20's by now, and he didn't deserve to get hauled off today, he deserved to see out that game, there were plenty of others plodding around that deserved the kick up the arse more.

The two goals Son scored were of the very highest calibre, great through balls played by Alli and Kane but both required real intelligence and finesse to finish, which Son did with panache.

Those two goals were actually scored on the counter, the rest of the performance very uninspiring, no tempo or incision from midfield at all. Another example of Poch's favouritism is Dier's selection in midfield over the much more dynamic and energetic Wanyama. If there's ever a case for pairing the belt and braces it's not a day like today when we are having 75% of the ball.

Kane, brilliant assist for Son's goal aside was really poor, on a day when we made 800 odd passes, he completed less than half of the 17 he attempted. Eriksen made as many key passes as Dembele, Dier and Alli put together, we can't keep relying purely on Eriksen to supply all the direction of this team, some of it has to come from the midfield. We are now pretty much playing a 433, and we really don't need two sets of brakes in a CM3, especially not at home to the dross.

For all our domination, If Huddersfield had any attacking wherewithal at all, we'd could have come unstuck there today, they had a good chance just before we scored our second, and it's how we coughed up points earlier in the season, just not being at it.

Fun stat. Spurs 838 passes, 3 through balls played. Huddersfield 286 passes, 3 through balls played.

Quite clearly Son was the difference today. A lot of players slightly off the pace but enough to comfortably beat Huddersfield. Great to have Jan back. On to Juventus

But of a flat occasion, performance and atmosphere. Made me miss my seat at white hart lane, I don’t think a match ever passed me by the way yesterday’s did regardless of the quality on show. I can’t wait till next season.

That said, this wasn’t our worst performance by any means, we just strolled it and won the game without breaking a sweat really. Dangerous game to play, but perhaps Huddersfield also decided not to leave first gear because I was amazed at their lack of fight and vigour. Aren’t they fighting relegation?

Lloris was fine, one good save.

Aurier was decent defensively, don’t remember much contribution in attack.

Sanchez was good, he seems to have rediscovered some form. Managed Mounie very well.

Vertonghen was fine, unruffled and solid as ever.

Davies was guilty of a few sloppy passes and while he tried to get forward, didn’t seem in sync with the rest of the team.

Dier was ponderous, nothing of note defensively, a few frustratingly over hit passes.

Dembele, so crucial usually to driving up our tempo and bragging the ball forward, seemed happy to sit deep and play a of keepy-bally-safey-passy. Uninspiring.

Eriksen, who isn’t at his best, was taking the most responsibility for making something happen, finding pockets of space and spreading play. However, when those around him are so cumbersome, his powers are blunted.

Dele played an exquisite through ball for Son’s opener, tried to probe constantly and took up some decent positions throughout, made himself a nuisance.

Son scored two lovely goals, both composed and showed skill, pace and purpose throughout. Should’ve had another goal at 1-0 when he dallied in the box, but still clear MOTM.

Kane wasn’t at his best, his shooting was a bit off and he wasn’t that involved, but he made goal number two with a pass Hoddle would be proud of, was involved in the first with a beautiful chested pass to Dele, and almost created another early on with a lovely cross to Dele. Not great, but effective.

Lamela didn't do much today but played a lot less minutes, so not a fair comparison. I trust Lamela to give 100% against Juve.

I think it's fair to say we had a huge eye on Wednesday night. Just get the three points as comfortably as you can, expending as little energy as possible....sort of thing.

I never expected a really high tempo affair yesterday.

From what I saw, it was about just getting the job done. First half we could easily have had 2 or 3 but then second half just went right into first gear. Huddersfield just couldn't really keep the ball and we knew that.

Everyone was around a 7 with Son an 8 or so.
But what now stands out for me are our subs. Lamela and Moura came on and kept Huddersfield on the back foot.
But I will throw in a special mention for Sissoko who I have watched twice at Wembley this week and has performed well as Dembele lite.
This looks like the role he's most suited to, and whilst he'll never have the technique of the big man, his mobility and directness causes its own problems.
Whilst singling out Sissoko may seem strange, we have won twice this week with Dembele only having to play 70 minutes. The ability to rest/rotate the big man could end up being the single biggest factor as we fight on 3 fronts for the rest of the season.

Must say, I can away from the game feeling that it was all a bit tepid, but watching the highlights, MOTD and Sky, we could have mauled Huddersfield. And the move did the first goal, starting with Dier’s ball into Kane, was as good as anything Man City or Barcelona have produced this season.

One could argue that it's a damn sight easier to play through balls through our backline when they have half the pitch behind them on a counter attack than for us to play through balls within the other half of the pitch that is filled with probably every player besides Lloris. Could be a bit of a mis-leading stat in that regard.

Don't get me wrong though, I don't disagree with the bulk of your review. I thought Alli was incredibly frustrating....been here before....constantly getting caught on the ball - that said he did show some brilliance too so can't be overly annoyed with him. Kane was flat along with a few others. What I would say is that Huddersfield generally defended well and rather aggressively from what I saw. Each time the ball when into Kane's feet they were on him. He seemed to be fouled often with his back to goal and Wagner clearly had them set up to park the bus and counter which these teams often do to us. For me, next season needs to be about finding better ways to break down the bus parkers. If we can do that more effectively then we'll be up there challenging city next season for the title.

Honorable mention for Aurier who I thought had a very good game, particularly in the wake of recent criticism. He looked more focused to me and hardly put a foot wrong all game.
