He hasnt lived up to my expectations. Genuinely thought he would be better

But against Palace he was extremely brave to slide in like he did to stop a highly probable goal. He could have just let him shoot and wouldnt have been blamed for us conceding but he didnt, and risked more media backlash if he gave away another pen so fair play to him.

It was also his cross that led to the corner we scored from

You can't compare Walker's game to Trippier's, Walker plays as a inverted full back whilst the winger Sterling/B Silva hug the touchline so he doesn't bomb down the wing and get to the byline as much as he id for Spurs - less chance of getting assists. The two are non-comparable.

He plays as an "inverted full-back" precisely because he can't cross. I was responding to a poster saying "if I spent £20m on a full-back, I'd expect them to know how to cross", when that's clearly not the case when it comes to actual football managers.

That's not why he plays there, he plays there because it's a requirement in Pep' s tactics, he did the same at Bayern, that's the point I was making really, you don't really see him going round the outside and putting in crosses these days because that not really his job and comparing his stats to Trippier needs to be looked at in context.

He’s had a torrid time recently but I thought he had a solid game today. Did nothing silly and tried to just do the basics well. Might be something for him to concentrate on that.

big improvement last night, looks to be some potential there without the brain fades

another year under Poch he could be decent FB, it took Davies a while but look at his form now

He had a decent game yesterday.

People need to remember he's young, new league, had no pre-season with the team, and full back is one of the most demanding positions in a Pochettino team.

I get that people hoped he'd come in and be great straight away, no matter how many times we see it take time for players to settle and adjust to Poch/the league, but are people forgetting what sort of players Walker/Rose were before Poch got his hands on them? Aurier has at least as much potential as those players, so anyone writing him off yet is mental in my opinion. Poch is the fullback whisperer.

The big thing is the decision making. He is really rash and you just aren’t going to coach that out of him. He has the potential to be a very good player especially if we can work him delivering the ball early. Walker is a very good player despite some clear flaws in his game. However, let’s be honest, if it is 0-0 in the CL final in the 89th minute and someone has cut into our box, you know he is diving in, which is disconcerting.

Still think KWP will be our best RB in a couple of years

And again, I'll say Rose and Walker. It's all well and good pointing to their previous two seasons with us, but before then would either have been described as having good decision making? No, both were incredibly frustrating and full of mistakes. One of Pochettino's biggest strengths is his ability to coach full backs. It's not a coincidence that Walker, Rose, Davies, Trippier, Shaw were all much improved under his tutelage. Give it time. There's at least as much raw material in Aurier as there was in Rose or Walker.

Those mistakes never went away.

Again, Aurier gets both barrels and Davies gets away with it.
What does Davies get away with? if youre saying the perfectly timed challenge in are box, then that's an extremely odd thing to complain about.

Why do we try to lift a player by trying to bring down one of our other players.

That's not really true. Guardiola encourages flexibility and is happy for his full backs to come inside and pull opponents out of shape, but he also expects them to contribute to the attack as wide attackers too, and it's not totally dissimilar to the role he had with us when we played a Back 4 system, just City's play is even more possession heavy and condensed centre third biased as the tippy tap around that area trying to suck opponents out, where as Poch's approach was less patient or intricate.

A lot of it depends on who's the opponent and who's ahead of him:

I'm completely mystified at this. I saw every second of Saturday's match and can't remember a single incident from any of our players to warrant "both barrels" - what happened?

Aurier played very well at the weekend. Much improved i would say, he had one iffy pass that i remember but then also put in lots of good crosses. Please remember people a good cross does not mean it has to be a goal, Aurier put in lots at the weekend and they were either well defended against or were not capitalised on by our players in the box. Aurier also won multiple headers when defending and was leaping like a bloody salmon to win them. He has had some iffy games but i have faith in him that with a full pre-season and more coaching by Poch he will get even better. He also provides a different style of play to trippier.

Aurier is a really interesting full back. At times he can be rash, careless and lose concentration. But he has the talent, and an eye for goal.

If Poch can get him to focus, and just fine tune his game, he can be a massive player for us.
