Good news!

The Times - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes he is the best man to take the club forward, and has told his coaching staff that he will not step down this summer.

Times with a story today that Wenger has no intention of leaving in the summer and genuinely believes he is the best man to take the club forward.....luvvly jubbly....(y)

The demoralising effect this is having on the fans, the team, the board and everyone else connected with the club is incredible. It's like watching an animal suffer a long, painful death. As a Spurs supporter I only hope the agony is prolonged as much as possible with a cynical and stubborn old man at odds with a board of directors too scared to tell him his time is up. I readily admit to enjoying every single minute of the situation there....not an ounce of sympathy for them.

Im not surprised. I don’t think he will be gone in the summer either.

I would usually agree but I feel things are reaching a point where they have to act. To be honest I actually think they are already planning for a summer change as there have been new appointments (new Head of Recruitment). Wouldn't surprise me to see Joachim Loew in post come May. I also think that Wenger will announce he is leaving shortly after their Europa exit, whenever that should be.

Really???

I mean he was dignified and decent when he won, but when he lost he would insult refs, blame faulty decisions, just about anything. He was more like a child than a manager. He was a manager who took youth prospects from abroad and attracted big name promising players from the continent, when there was little competition (especially from English sides).

After that massive advantage went and everyone started doing it, he has been on a downward spiral. He got lucky that he inherited the back four he did, he stole our CB and has basically not developed a player at Arsenal in years.

He is now taking players and ruining their careers. If he was dignified and decent he would have left Arsenal years ago to rebuild, but he is staying until he runs them into the ground.

That is historical revisionism at its finest.

Whilst it's true he joined the Premier League when teams were still primarily made up of British/Irish players, and that as a French coach he had additional knowledge of up and coming French players (Vieira is a good example), by the late 90s everyone was looking for exotic imports from Europe. The difference was while he was bringing in players like Overmars, Petit, Anelka and Ljungberg, we were going shopping on the continent and coming back with Ramon Vega, Steffen Iversen, Nicola Berti and Steffen Freund.

The day he said "Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser" I lost any vestige of respect for the man. It's not only offences committed by his own team he never sees; it's what he's doing to the club he claims to love. Never mind.

Personally, I think most of that was over egging the cake to make sure the other players knew that what he did was unacceptable....... Then he became a bit of a pantomime villain, and much of the antipathy was stirred up by the goon fans themselves.
Did people really want him dead?

I just love the fact even more that they battered Everton 5-1 in the first game with Aubameyang & Mikh, as it raised their expectations to ridiculous levels! All for it to fall so dramatically apart haha!

Mikh is proof that being good in the german league does not mean you will be good in the Prem, its a much lower standard of football except Bayern and Dortmund. The other games are like playing against top Championship sides, hence its easier for Aubameyang to score hatfuls and Mikh to run the show. Just look how good Kagawa & Sahin were when they went back there

There were far worse players than those - especially Iversen, who was extremely highly rated when we bought him. He was very talented but hugely injury-prone and probably enjoyed one too many things a professional footballer shouldn't.

I followed him closely when he returned to Norway and he'd clearly cut the shit and knuckled down because he regularly performed at the levels he reached during our 99/00 season.

It’s not. I typed it 3 times and it didn’t connect.
