Says who? Is there a football law that says the fullback must be he one taking it? Poch just needs to do a tiny bit of tactical tweaking if aurier continues to do foul throw ins. Its not rocket science

Because it's totally logical that's why.

So he moved into a central position leaving the right (HIS position) completely unguarded.

Sorry but that's no defence (excuse the pun).

.
I know where you're going here and Aurier has his defensive faults but I think blaming him solely for the goal maybe a bit harsh. Would like to see a wider angle but to me it looked like Aurier recognized the threat of Wilson who pulled in behind Sanchez and Wanyama (both got caught defending the same space in the box). Aurier and Wilson both miss the ball leaving Stanislas free. In that situation I would put it more on Sanchez and Wanyama for losing Bournemouth's striker in the box than I would Aurier for leaving his man to cover the higher percentage threat... but that's just my onions. Better communication from all 3 would have been ideal to avoid the situation entirely.

He needs to spend time learning to put consistent crosses in. Drove me mad at points today but did in retrospect do some things well. Made some good defensive tackles and worked hard. Didn’t complain when moved to the left, kept working hard and got a goal. Still think he’s a long way from where a starting FB should be for us.

Went up for a header with the striker. This witch hunt on Aurier is embarrassing really

A basic observation of a defensive mistake by a Spurs player is 'an embarrassing witch hunt', is it?

He missed the ball because he misread it through the air and went too narrow. He did it for the right reasons because he was trying to cover across but if he'd picked up the ball's flight sooner he would've comfortably headed it clear.

I don't believe he deserves to be burned to death for his witchcraft as you're suggesting but if you completely miss a cross that you could have reached and opposition score from it, clearly it's a defensive mistake.

Some merciless ‘twatter’ in here from some. Sure it is some of the same who would of begged HK (early doors), Walker, Rose. Slagged off Eriksen couple years ago when he was not performing consistently at the level he is now. Knocking us signing Wanyama. Yes! I do remember.

Cut the guy some slack. Crying out loud. He hasn’t had a full pre-season, not a full season, and some are on his case :banghead:

He went inside and challenged the striker for the cross. It’s hardly his fault in went over both and no covering player behind you.

Sanchez, Waynama hell even Rose are at fault before you’d even think about Aurier part.

don’t blame him at all for the goal he did what he should’ve yeah he missed it but we didn’t really sign him to win headers against strikers in the box did we? He makes mistakes yes as does much of the squad. I think there’s a player there though give him time.

His crossing is his weakest point for sure I cursed at a few of them today

Don't forget the assist!

His crossing is very inconsistent (as was Walker's), but he did well to create quite a few of those crossing opportunities in the first place.
Although he has plenty of room for improvement, he's already better than most PL fullbacks and is only one year older than Rose was when Poch turned his career around.

Agreed. If the cross ends up an inch or two lower, the Bournemouth lad has a free header from just in front of the goal. Aurier was just trying to rescue a bad situation. Another year on and I have a feeling he and Sanchez would've sorted the situation out better with more confident communication etc.

Wonder why he keeps foul throwing though?

How many times does someone need to be shown how to do a simple task? (And would have been shown this thrown youth career as well).

Pretty sure he took a great touch to keep the move that led up to the second goal going too.

He also played Son in on the keeper on the right side not long after that, which was another cracking chance.

What is more logical is for the player who happens to be there to take the throw-in rather than waiting for the fullback to come then give it to him to do the throw. FFS ball is already in your arms, just take the throw-in.

I like him and remain positive but HK, Rose and Walker did not come from PSG for 20 mill. I get the preseason thing would have an effect but our season is heading towards the end and im sure we would of hoped for more when we signed him.

we are sitting third in the league, made the knockouts of the CL, and in the quarters of the FA Cup

where were we at this point last year with Walker who played in Poch’s system for 3 years? i’d say he and Trippier have done a fine job

A lot of praises from the MOTD2. Do not see that coming (I mean, focusing on a RB in the show). But maybe he is quite talented.

Aurier (France)
Sanchez (Columbia)
Vertonghen (Belgium)
Toby (Dier) (Belgium) (England)
Rose (England)
Davies (Wales)
Trippier (England)

If we are playing 3 at the back with 2 fullbacks, that's 4/5 nationalities, with two being new players. Granted english is the first language for half of them, it's not for the other half. It will take some time for Sanchez and Aurier to bed in and be able to communicate confidently with the other defenders.

This time next year, I think most of the smaller defensive errors that we've made this season will be snuffed out. Communication is so key when defending as a unit.
