Quick check of the PC flow chart...
Q: Were the spat upon family white and British?
A: Yes, it appears so.

"OK Jamie, quick suspension and back to work mate."

Seriously folks, imagine if the girl was black or wearing a hijab, this discussion wouldn't be happening he'd have been sacked immediately. Get on with it Sky.

Why bring race into it?

Post reported. If you want a forum on which to be thick and racist, may I suggest KUMB...

It's an interesting view. One I personally disagree with.

Sorry to take this a little off-tangent here but I remember watching Steve Coogan talking at the Leveson trial. He talked about how he felt he was a talented entertainer and lived within the law but not a role-model. He spoke about his adultery and how the press hounded him so much he stopped wanting to entertain. Damn shame, as he is very talented.

I know that is slightly off topic but I think the point stands with footballers. I want good pundits to give good insights into tactics, analyse the actions of the game and a look into a player's mindset.

I don't really see them as role-models and wouldn't hold them to the same moral standards as a politican.

There is of course a line to their behaviour and can be punished for stepping out of line. This is a tricky case as spitting is disgusting. But I believe him when he says he didn't see the girl and he was provoked. So a punishment but not firing is approriate in this case.

I take your point and it's well expressed but I think you have to take into account who you expect a person's audience to be....in the case of a politician or adult themed film actor/comedian there will not be many young children avidly hanging on to their every word. Sky needs to project a footballing image and environment that attracts all generations, one in which parent and child can watch a TV match together and then listen intently to the analysis from the pundits without any of them being recognised for such outrageous actions. If Carragher cannot conduct himself correctly then Sky should be clearly seen as having that ability and dismiss him.

I don't disagree, that Carragher should face some sort of consequences as it's disgusting, although I have never known anyone to be killed by being spat at.
Having been both punched and spat at previously, I would much rather be punched in the face again than spat at in the face again.

All very fair points.

It is your last sentence where I form the opinion that he shouldn't be fired. This is his first misdemeanour in 10 years. If he was constantly stepping out of line then fine, fire him.

But as a singular case I don't think this is a firing issue.

In general i think he does conduct himself correctly.

What on earth are you taking about? Race has nothing to do with this.

Also, when people use the phrase "politically correct", what they really mean is that something makes them feel uncomfortable. So it's quite telling that you used it here.

No. What type of scum spits in another persons face, regardless of age or provocation, which in this case wasn't even physical?

Trying to find the gif of Kyle Walker spitting into his hand and slinging it at a Chelsea player but so far unsuccessful.. will update as it goes.

Well how about being spat at or being in the middle in a multi car pile up? Carragher was a dick, the driver of the other car was far worse imo. As someone else said, plenty of idiots drive and use their phone whilst driving . It's another level of moronic to start filming someone through the passenger window though, and stupider still to then send the footage off to the Mirror.

Speaking with my employment lawyer hat on, it's clearly a sackable offence (it's gross misconduct). Having said that, he may well not even be employed by Sky, it may be a contractor/PSC arrangement.
