We have a mental inferiority complex at the bridge

I don't see how the Spurs team of 2018 have any conjunction to the Spurs team mentality of 1999, 2005 or any other year.

Every game is a new game. Every team is a new team.

We have a good enough team to beat Chelsea. That's it. History means nothing.

I don't quite agree. History isn't everything but it is a factor IMO, however minimal. When was the last time we won at Stamford Bridge in the league? Was it 1990 or something like that? Long time ago. For whatever reason we find it difficult to win there, and we need to put that abysmal record to bed. Yes admittedly they've been better than us over the last 15/20 years or so but we've been competitive for a few years now and still can't quite get over that final hurdle and actually beat them on their own patch. Until we win at their place, history does mean something. Psychologically, we need to break through that barrier.

I know many people didn't like Chiellini's comments after the Juve match regarding our inability to [paraphrasing] "arrive at the final outcome" but there was an element of truth in there. Until we can go to a place like Chelsea and get a result people will continue to talk about this team's frailties. It's not about "bottling" or anything silly like that, but it is a slight mental block. And we need to remove it. We are the better team this season. Let's go there and win.

IMHO.

If you could harvest Ligament, which of our players would you sacrifice to restore Kane's ankle? Cannot be loaned out. (y)

I'm going Llorente, he don't need it tbh

I appreciate your viewpoint but I still think it is more a quirk of statistical odds than anything more fated.

As you've pointed out, over the last 20 years they have been for perhaps 15/16 years of them been a top tier/best in country level and we were at best top 4 pretenders at worst laughing stock level.

Only the last 2-3 years have we been meeting them on anything like true parity. Add in the fact that it is their home stadium after all, the way I see it is we've only been having a real crack at it a small handful of times.

Same with England and penalties. losing even 5 out of 6 is not statistically indicative of anything or even that unusual on a coin toss decision

Tl;dr. What I'm saying is I don't think the players are really burdened by these sort of things as fans are.

Son gets injured and we're fucked.

Fernando was a ludicrous acquisition.
Give it a rest. The guy was in the top ten strikers last season playing for a side fighting relegation, he offered an option as a target man off the bench, he’s happy playing second fiddle, he’s been a serial winner in his career and he cost £12m. He was exactly the right choice to be our reserve striker and continues to be. No player with his minutes would have performed better, and no player would have got more minutes because Kane has had a great season again,

He, c-l-e-a-r-l-y, wasn't the right choice at all. Not at all.

And he'll be gone in the summer... because he wasn't the right choice.

Vitriol over seeing a Spurs player struggle is just low.

Stating that "Fernando was a ludicrous acquisition" is "Vitriol over seeing a spurs player struggle"?? lol o_O

You're trying to imply vitriol from me towards FL and you know that's not the case.

A. What a slimeball, agenda-driven, post to make.
B. In your world, a spurs fan is not allowed to be critical of the fact a player has been bought to play in a critical position, who was clearly not going to be a good fit for the team (to anyone who had a fucking clue), and that proves to be the case?

Strange, strange world.

Now, you can either show me where I've been specifically spiteful/hateful towards FL, or you can stfu.

You used to be a cool guy; now you're just turning into an insufferable bore.

The thing is we don't even need to beat Chelsea. We all want us to do it because historically we've been awful there, but in terms of this campaign it's not essential. They need to beat us though.

So which game do we predict Harry will be back ? I’m guessing he will be on the bench for the city game at Wembley

Fair point. I agree that it affects the fans much more. I still think there's a slight influence on the team's psyche. I'll be happy when we finally win there and then we can stop talking about this subject :)

Luckily Stamford Bridge will not be around for the next 2 seasons. Hopefully when they knock it down they'll take out whatever freakish curse we have there. There's probably some Daniel Levy Voodoo doll buried underneath with a pin through his chest. Remove that and lift the curse!

Will it be that soon? I understood that they were still a considerable way from the point of being ready to start building their ground. It took us a decade from the point of first receiving planning permission to actually start building, so given the complexity of their location I'd be amazed if it happened that quickly.

I seemed to have it my mind it was starting next season. Shows what I know. That must mean more years of misery for us there then :(

It's such a freaky record we have there though. How we can't just have some luck or even a controversial win there I dont know.

Its at least one more season, as we had dibs on Wembley for next year incase our ground hit any delays.
Thing is with Roman if they run into any Archway type scenarios, there'll be no waiting for courts to make decisions, he either pays them off or he forces polonium down their throats.

You say this like you have never seen a Poch presser before. We will probably know less about the injury and timetable than before the presser.

We will know:

1. Harry is very positive
2. Always we need to assess every day
3. Harry will miss Swansea for sure.
4. Its too soon to know how long he will be out
5. Harry is very positive, so we are very positive.
Lets see how I did:

But Pochettino refused to put a date on his return, when asked if Kane could play in the potential top four decider at Stamford Bridge after the international break.

"With different players, it's the same," Pochettino said. "You're going to read all the info in the media -- that's one thing. The reality is now he's in his crutches and boot and we need to assess him day by day and we'll see the reaction.

"We want to recover him as soon as possible and the professionals here are focused on trying to recover. We cannot put a day or date on him starting to participate in training with the team. Step by step. It's not a long term injury and you can keep your form and that helps you to be fit when you fix your problem.

"We're happy because he's so positive and when you see a positive player it helps us too, to believe he can be ready again to compete."

This just popped up on BBC

Chelsea expect to be playing at Stamford Bridge until the end of the 2019-20 season and will be forced to play at an alternative venue - likely to be Wembley Stadium - for up to four years during construction.
