I just think fair play to the guy. He looked like being mostly the 'perfect substitute' or perfect 'squad player' not long ago but he's raised his game and his making himself one of the first names on the sheet. You have to say he must be with the goals and general threat he's providing right now. We were actually looking very comfortable in our system with 3 centre backs and fullbacks and I think in and around that period Son put in a few great performances and made it very hard to use that system again without dropping him or someone else integral.

Was the "Fittingly, Son delivers on Mothers day" line from MOTD bad or so bad that it was good? Can't decide.

Other than that, I saw that Son finally got his "He may need to leave Spurs to reach the next level" article in some newspaper. So he's definitely one of our big boys now.

London Evening Standard:

Tottenham will hold discussions with South Korean sports chiefs
about the prospect of Heung-min Son missing games to play for his country.

South Korea are keen to have Son, arguably the best current Asian footballer, as one of three over-age players in an Under-23 squad taking part in the Asian Games from August 18 to September 2. That would absent him from Spurs’ early fixtures next term.

When a similar issue arose four years ago, Bayer Leverkusen would not let Son link up with his country. Because the tournament is not part of FIFA’s official calendar, clubs are not obliged to release players for it.

Yet Son, who joined Tottenham from Leverkusen in 2015, could be let off military service if he plays in the Asian Games and South Korea win gold.

The South Korean government has allowed gold-medal winners exemption from conscription in the past, so should the 25-year-old help South Korea to victory, he could possibly avoid his mandatory two-year stint, which he is supposed to begin by the age of 28.

Of Son’s involvement, South Korea Under-23 coach Hak-Bum Kim said: “I’m going to pick him unless there’s a special situation. I believe there’s not going to be a big problem.”

Positives and negatives I suppose. Would be a shame to lose him for a couple of weeks at a time of the season that we traditionally stutter, but it would save having to worry about losing him completely to national service IF South Korea were to win.

What if south korea doesn't win it?

The guy's not a striker, yet has managed to score seven goals in his last four games. I think any praise is more than justified.
Tbf 2 was playing as a striker but that’s not the point. Literally everyday since Sunday they’ve showed his two goals.

Pretty sure they are only doing it to show we don’t count on Kane as much as we actually do.

South Korea need to do a deal whereby they give him a pass for military service and we let him represent his country when called upon..

Just seen that if Son scores 3 more goals this season he'll have hit 50 in all comps for us. Fantastic return for someone who has been in and out of the team since he signed.

Fully deserves his recent run of starts.

Edit: Just to elaborate on the above, since they were all signed at the beginning of the 15/16 season:

Son: 47 Goals in 130 Games - 0.36 GPG
Pedro: 27 Goals in 122 Games - 0.22 GPG
Martial: 36 Goals in 129 Games - 0.3 GPG
Sterling: 41 Goals in 131 Games - 0.31 GPG

Has to be done by the time he’s 30 meaning 28 is the latest he can start it.

Every single source I've said on the subject says males have between the ages of 18 and 35 though? If that is the case, then assuming it has to be done by the time he's 35, that still leaves him free until he's 33.

I wonder how things will play out if in one or two years time he needs to go off to do his military service

Edit: for clarity, in regards to these apparent contract talks

Same. Possibly one report in a paper getting it wrong and everyone following suit. Like when they were all showing our old stadium design when talking about the new stadium? (i hope).
