UFC is unfortunately picking up more and more traits from boxing in recent years though. I wholeheartedly agree with your post ..... if it had been written anytime before around 2015.

It used to be 100% purely about making the best fights and matching up deserved contenders. The advantage to fighters being company employees was that they basically couldn’t run from fights. Doesn’t seem to be that way anymore ... a crop of stars have disappeared which has made UFC somewhat desperate and fighters seem to push for nonsensical ( in terms of rankings and titles ) money fights over logical title defences and contendership eliminators. This is actually understandable from the fighters, however, as the advantage of UFC having them as employees = great fights, has switched around now as people that aren’t right at the top of the ladder are very underpaid.

I blame the Reebok deal. It is singlehandedly the worst thing that the UFC ever did, and it was entirely based on lies and broken promises.

Interesting.

I wonder how Dana would answer your points.

Till headlining UFC liverpool but opponent not announced yet. I like that lad he is a proper scrapper. I think the UK fans will enjoy his style.

Finally. Long overdue ! I'm quite excited by Till, his standup is legit and he is massive for his weight class, he has the potential to be a champion, imo.

Getting super pumped for Khabib v Tony the press conference call was gold despite the poor audio quality. Khabib won that war or words because Tony is so scatty and all over the place with his chat, he’s basically nuts but in a refreshingly endearing kind of way. I like both fighters. Still think Khabib takes this, but Tony is dangerous everywhere

UFC not even contacting McGregor to replace Tony is pure negligence. Conor on 6 days notice would make WAVES among the entire sports world and make LOADS of money. Now there giving Holloway a shot to be what McGregor was. Dont like it

FFS !!

Absolutely gutting !

Tony out, Tony v Khabib is OFF. Again !
Dana is being a fucking dick though. I get it he's frustrated, we all are. But to say he will never make that fight again is stupid. The good news is that Holloway is stepping in. If khabib wins there is only Tony he can fight. Connor is gone.

Conor would never take the fight, he's had all this time to step up and he hasn't done it.

You can kind of see why though, there has never been a more cursed fight in the history of the UFC. Five times it has been put together and has failed to occur. Dana blows a lot of hot smoke though, if Khabib wins and Tony comes back and wins then it will just have to happen. Maybe on shorter notice with a quick turnaround or something.

As gutted as I am to see Tony pull out Max is just as exciting a fight. I hope he wins and we see a rematch between Max and Conor. Its hard to see Khabib not being too strong though and win this fight.

Big fight for Till in Liverpool too against Thompson.

4 times isn't it?
Tony wasn't unprofessional, it was a freak accident that could happen to anybody but Dana acts like a spoilt kid. This is a fight everyone wants to see, there should be extra determination to put the fight on.

Honestly fuck Conor, he's got way too much power, he does not deserve the next title shot. Dana has consistently refused to strip Conor. Woodley has said that he will back in July but Dana has refused to wait for him, yet Conor has never defended his title since he won it in 2016, he hasn't been injured he's been on paternity leave since the Mayweather. I'm sick of the double standards.

I can understand the annoyance on Dana's part and not wanting to book the fight again to be honest. If you make a blockbuster fight 4 times and every time it fails to materialise then it's hard to build up and hype the fight again without any embarrassment on your face. There's only so many times you can hype the same fight over and over with it failing to happen every previous time. I mean there has to be a point when you just say no, or can it get to 5 or 6 times for it to be cancelled with an intention to still try another time?

I understand the comment may be out of pure frustration and he may change his mind but I don't blame him for at this stage not wanting to have the fight in the future.

I think the fight could possibly happen if the two fighters continue to win and make it the only option. I could see it as a co-main event on a stacked main card with something else as the de-facto main event so the PPV doesn’t live or die upon Tony v Khabib alone. That seems like a plausable and realistic outcome.

Max is one of my favourite fighters but he’s going to have a brutal weight cut and is coming back early off often injury. It’s not ideal for him and lessens his chances of winning, imo. Having said that, I’m still excited to see the fight and major props to Holloway for stepping up and even the UFC for doing their best under the circumstances.

Till has masssive potential but I think Thompson is poor booking and may be a step to far too soon. He’s legit and very unlucky not to Ben champion right now. Think Till should have been given an easier fight to showcase himself on home soil but appears Till demanded the fight. The rewards would be huge if he pulled off the upset

Bollocks :(.

Khabib vs Ferguson was potentially a great fight. Holloway vs Ortega was potentially a great fight. Khabib vs Holloway on 6 days notice isn't a great fight. Khabib will win easily and boringly. There's a reason there are weight classes. Khabib will drag Max to the ground and pound away .

At least there's some great match ups on the undercard .

To be honest I dont care how long Conor has been out for. I want to see the best fights possible and Conor vs Max 2 would be an awesome fight. For the title or not.

I feel the same about the Diaz brothers. They've been out a long time now (I know Nick served a suspension) but they're exciting fighters. The UFC is lacking big fighters at the moment so they need these guys back.

I don't think Conor vs Max is the best fight possible at this stage. It's a match up with either Khabib or Tony. Dana said he will definitely fight this year, if he ducks out of fighting those two then Max is still a high quality opponent. If he comes back and fights Diaz than that's bollocks.

Dana talks a lot of shit but I believe whats been said in this instance to Khabib and Tony. That the second their fight began, then Conor was effectively stripped, Dana just wanted to make sure the fight happened since it had failed 3 times already. It would have been a bad situation for the UFC if they stripped Conor then no title fight happened this week leaving everything in complete limbo - a fact that has been partially borne out by the fight failing for a 4th time.

If Khabib and Max make weight then McGregor is stripped of the title end of, I think.

What is the crazy stat again ? 4-6 belts I think it is McGregor has won in various organisations and has ZERO title defences
