You are talking past me. Of course people aren’t talking about overpaying average players, and of course they are talking about locking down our best players to improved contracts and making valuable additions to the team.

Sorry it's just that some fans seem to talk about our wages as a criticism. Which it shouldn't be.

It is obscene. What's also obscene is on average next season for one home game we the club will make £3m not including food and drink. £3m for 90mins of a game, personally I would be perfectly happy with 250k of that going to Kane than being banked. Not that it works like that obviously but Kane is one of the biggest draws and reasons why the stadium would be full, I've never had an issue with elite players earning vast sums as they put bums on seats and technically generate revenue it's more the meh players who pull in close to 100k that I don't like.

3m quid is that all? That’s a pittance!

I think Levy and Lewis are building a very solid financial foundation under the club. The long term strategy is to build a financial colossus that does not need oil or oligarch money but is a commercial giant in the football world. That underpins the football side of the business. It’s a bloody good model. Patience ladies, we aren’t in a 100m race. This is a long term strategy and so far it is going to plan.

I wouldn't define that as elite thou, you can't compare us to what other clubs have won in terms of silverware.

It's a funny one though, because you wouldn't (I assume) consider Leicester an elite club, but they won the PL the other year

A one off doesn't make you elite though.
And for what its worth imo were not even close to being elite.

Yeah, agreed - on both accounts

Although I'd change the term 'Elite' to 'Super-elite' or something like that

Essentially, we've got a long way to go before we regularly challenge the likes of Barca, et al

If your considering elite teams by wealth as you say, then yes Leicester is one though that's my point. They were 14th in Europe in the money league.

What makes a big club ? Trophy wise What have we done in the last 27 years to call ourselves a big club?

History is one thing , but time is moving quick and the 60s 70s and 80s is becoming an old past time more so than a recent one.

Are we still a big club?

We are a financially sound club but until we stop choking we can't be considered a big club.

This choking obsession is media driven and getting tiring. We’ve won nothing not because we so call choke, when I reality we’ve not been good enough and beaten by the better teams whether that is over 38 games or one off games.

We are decent but not great.

We are a significantly large club but not one of the trophy winning elite. Compared to other top-but-below-the-real-elite European clubs (Seville, Dortmund, Monaco, Napoli) our achievements are very poor.

We are decent but not great.

But we can’t have both. This is why other clubs fans get annoyed at the media love in for us (which a lot our fans seem to not see).

In one sentence, we’re being described as one of the best teams in the land, with one of the most expensive set of players to procure in the world coveted by the elite, talked up as the next super club in this very thread, then next we’re excusing ‘choking’ as “well we’re just not that good yet”

Will the real Tottenham Hotspur please stand up. The truth, as ever, is somewhere in between - well run club, lots of potential, some great young players, cracking looking new stadium. But no one likes getting ahead of themselves more than a Spurs fan

To the likes of Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea we must seem like Spammers after that one good season with Payet when they were supposedly going to topple us. Still have a good laugh about that now

But when we beat them in one off games and remember we have beaten all of them bar citeh, then you have to question their mentality.

The question is more the dropped points v Burnley, WBA , Swansea and West Ham at home that may be a indication that we’re nit quite good enough irrespective of mentality

To be fair Monaco and Dortmund have had much less competition in their own leagues and took advantage of Bayern/PSGs worst spells in this time. Whilst Dortmund are struggling to remain competitive year in year out. Sevilla always prioritised the EL, which we never did/could do.

The problem for us is that you can have City and United both having bad seasons but then you've still got Liverpool and Chelsea to think about. These teams are without this problem.

We do need to find a way past this though and start to win something. I want us to build a better, stronger squad so that we can prioritise every trophy.

The stadium will give us a solid foundation, but it’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation for Levy. We’ll never be able to attract the massive commercial sponsors that United, Chelsea, City do unless we become sinomnous with winning. And we’ll not be able to consistently win things without some significant investment - firstly paying the older players in the squad the market rate, and getting quality additions.

I wouldn’t class City as a big club, just a very rich club. They find it hard to fill the stadium even though they have a great football team. The fans don’t give much of an atmosphere on champ lge nights. Chelsea are just West Ham with money.

It’s ridiculous for us not to acknowledge these two as big clubs, they’ve won as much this decade as we have in our history. That’s just the way it is.

City are not a rich club, but have rich owners. If they packed up and rode off into the sunset the club would collapse in a mater of weeks.
