What you need to look for in a youth player is application, desire, vision across the pitch (Not just when you've got the ball at your feet).

I'm not saying Marcus doesn't have those things, but they're not as well developed yet.

Totally disagree. In the modern technical game, most top-level coaches are looking for game knowledge, technique/ ability and tactical understanding. Edwards has a lot of these traits.

Marcus Edwards is a 'get you out of your seat' player for sure, but for me, until he develops those other parts to his game, he'll be seen as a luxury player. And I think the game has moved on from the days when a luxury player could be accommodated, in the English leagues at least...
Agree. Thankfully, English football at the top pro & youth level have evolved. Raheem Stirling & Adam Lallana are good examples of this. Flexible and able to play effectively, in many positions across the front line. Edwards, has the potential & attributes to reach that level. Hopefully his potential is realised and not boxed in or stereotyped.

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing with different terminology....the "game knowledge" and "tactical understanding" that you're referring to, is what I meant when I said "vision across the pitch not just when the ball is at your feet"...

In my opinion, this is where Marcus is a little lacking currently

Equally, where you've agreed with me, I think you may have misunderstood that too, sorry! I'm not talking about being flexible (like Dier and Wanyama are for our seniors). I'm talking about being a "show pony"...That's an exaggeration, to make a point, but ultimately players who don't track back; work hard; understand when they need to apply pressure; when they need to come across and support etc (and think they can wait on the defender's shoulder for the rest of the team to do the dirty work), will find it harder than ever to break through.

Like I said, I am not saying that Marcus can't make it. Far from it. But these are all areas of his game he needs to add. He'll find his opportunities limited if he thinks his ability on the ball is enough.

Hope that makes sense ...

You do realise that Marcus Edwards doesn't actually exist don't you? You've all got these opinions and thoughts about a player that isn't even real.

Has anyone actually ever seen him play? Some clearly think they have but they haven't, he's a urban legend, an amalgamation of stories passed from forum to forum, a ghost.

Wanted to scratch below the surface of Marcus Edwards’ situation, so asked it of Daniel Farke.

It was a reasonably long question, with a very short answer...

“Wait until tomorrow.” #ncfc #thfc

On Marcus Edwards’ England U20s call-up, DF pleased in terms of ‘game time and self-confidence’ but clearly didn’t want to repeat what he has said ‘we will bring him to the door, he must go through it’, trained better, is available tomorrow.
