I disagree, I think playing at Wembley has cost us points this season. I don't think we would have drawn with WBA, Burnley and Swansea

My point is that maybe not as many points as some thought. We have not been struggling so much recently and so now there are complaints that it’s unfair.

Saints Web is full of Southampton fans happy they've avoided us and drawn Chelsea. A sign of where we are right now!
Yeah, I saw Le Tissier put up a poll on his Twitter and we were the team they least wanted (only 13% of votes said they wanted Tottenham I think).

We're the best team left in it but we now have to go out and prove it. I've seen us lose 5 semi-finals on the bounce over the years and was only 7 when we last won it, lets's do something about that.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to suggest we have an advantage. We have been playing there all season, we even had a replica Wembley pitch at the training ground. That shows that creating familiarity, creates an edge.

However, we had to go through a massive disadvantage all season in order to get to that point. And we still aren't strictly saying we have 'home' advantage. The other teams playing their home games at their home grounds still have more of an advantage than we have ever had, including in the FA cup.

We have adjusted, worked hard for that adjustment, so everyone else can f off.

Thought we've lost the last 7 or 8 semis on the bounce?

Man Utd fans should ask themselves if they would change Old Trafford for Wembley, for whole season, because that means they would have little advantage when playing in FA Cup semi finals. I guess not.

It would save them a lot of travelling time though.

I'd add to that that anyone would think none of players for the other big sides have played at and/or won at Wembley, which of course is bollocks.

They wouldn't have as far to travel!

What is the arguement? I thought teams Up Their Game when they come to Wembley? What about the advantage United have having played so many games at Wembley? What about the advantage of spending all that extra money over other clubs? Maybe we should introduce Tennis Seeding that takes into account a clubs success?

Everyone is a cockwomble and I’m one too, so yeh.

Yes, you're right! I forgot about the 5-1 hammering we took from Chelsea, so bad I erased it from my memory. I also couldn't remember the 0-1 loss to Arsenal but that's probably because I was still young and remembered the joy the year before. The Everton was the first one I really recall and that was humiliating.

Arsenal 92-93 - Lost 0-1
Everton 94/95 - Lost 1-4
Newcastle 98/99 - Lost 0-2 AET
Arsenal 00/01 - Lost 1-2
Portsmouth 09/10 - Lost 0-2 AET
Chelsea 11/12 - Lost 1-5
Chelsea 16/17 - Lost 2-4

Some absolute pathetic results and performances over the years. Let's hope these boys can erase all of that for us.

  1. Our decline was well and truly in motion by this point,
  2. This was tragic, we should’ve won the cup that year and the manner in which we lost still hurts. I’m yet to forgive Stuart Nethercott.
  3. We were mid table, they were one of the best teams in the country. Still, we were denied a certain penalty in the last minute of normal time when Dabizas fouled, right in front of me that was.
  4. I genuinely believed we’d do it at 1-0. Campbell went off crocked and that was that.
  5. This was disgusting, but also I think gave the team the fire to go beat Chelsea and Arsenal in the next week before finishing 4th for the first time.
  6. This was a terrible day to support Spurs.
  7. As so often v Chelsea, we were the better side but let ourselves down in key moments. Ultimately lost to two rockets and I still don’t understand Son at left back over Davies.

yeah, and I was present at all of them except last year. Thought I'd stay away in case I was a Jonah, but turns out it wasn't me, it was just Spurs being Spurs. Who'd of thought it? :D. So I'll most likely be back this year.

This.

Another way of looking at it (and I know CL is a different governing body):

  • When Liverpewel won the CL, there was the big whinge/whine that even though they had failed to qualify by the specified route for the next season's tournament. The rules were changed and with immediate effect to allow them to participate the next season because they were defending champions. No-one, particularly Liverpewel fans, whinge/whined that every single club in that competition knew before the tournament started that if they won the trophy but failed to qualify by the specified route for the next season's tournament they wold not be eligible to compete in the next season's tournament. Everyone knew, but they changed it with immediate effect anyway. Aside from everything else, it gave them access to CL money for a further season when subsequent events showed they were in deep trouble maintain their place at the very top.
  • When we finished fourth and Chelsea boughtwon the CL, the blank answer we got to any suggestion that it was unfair that we should miss out even though we had qualified for the tournament via the specified route, or at least be compensated, was that every knew at the start of the season that should such an outlandish thing happen, it was just tough on the club that lost out. It was also stated specifically that even though it might seem unfair and may need looking at, the governing body couldn't actually make any changes with immediate effect. Any rule change would have to be deferred before it could take effect. I don't remember rival fans getting outraged on our behalf and demanding a change with immediate effect. On the contrary, I believe the majority of them saw it as an opportunity to laugh at us!
  • Now we have qualified for the FA Cup semi final that was scheduled from the start of the season to be played at Wembley, all of a season rival fans want an immediate change, even though they knew at the start of the season that this could happen and said nothing.
So, let's get this straight: If it benefits Liverpool there can be a change that takes immediate effect even though every knew the situation at the start of the season; if it has a negative impact on us it is okay and there can be no change because everyone knew the situation at the start of the season; if it benefits us (potentially) then there should be a change with immediate effect even though everyone knew the situation at the start of the season. Hypocritical, much!

Personally, I have never wanted Cup semis played at Wembley. But everyone knew the situation at the start of the season. No-one protested. If they feel that strongly about it, they should campaign to have regs changed so that from next season if anyone hires Wembley while their stadium is renovated should reach the Cup semi/final, the games will be switched (perhaps to the Millenium Stadium). That would be fair AND CONSISTENT!

I think all of that sums us up over the last 20 years or so. We have either been rotten or not able to make the most of good situations.

How we managed to lose that semi 5-1 to Chelsea was disgusting. The players we had and how good we'd been for most of the season was a massive letdown. Our name should have been on the trophy that year.

I agree about 4, I think you're right in that it was quickly forgotten about as we'd still had success in other areas.

For me the Arse, Pompey and first Chavs games were the worst. Arse because it was pure stupidity to sack Graham just before the match, Pompey because really we shouldn't have lost that one just because. Chavs because the scoreline betrays what was a mostly even performance for us. For these reasons I don't think our semis record represents either a "hoodoo" or us playing badly. Rather it's mostly coincidence.

That Chelsea goal to make it 2-0 that never crossed the line, still pisses me off.

I was also even more annoyed as I was in the Chelsea end and having to listen to all those smug wankers (that includes my mum who got the tickets and is a chelsea fan. Bitch)
