That Pompey game was the only true example of us bottling it when given a proper opportunity. All the other semi final defeats are fair dues, those teams were as good as if not better than us.

It also pisses me RIGHT off as my old man drunk himself into hospital that day. I spent all day in A&E , recorded the match, ignored all media, stayed in, on weekend evening in my prime years and watched the whole fucking match as if it was live. All 2 hours of it. All while having my phone, internet etc off so as not to "ruin" it.

Massive Pompey fan I work with says with hindsight he still wouldn’t change things, he’s used to Portsmouth being a smaller club and a bit yo-yo, he’ll remember winning the FA cup forever.

The Everton game was really hard to take. Our name was on the cup. Klinsmann was meant to lift it. We won at Anfield in the previous round IIRC.

Pompey...FFS - Spursy

Chelsea 5-1 - words cant describe :(

David James got away with the most blatant penalty at 1-0 as well, absolutely wiped out one of our players then turned to the camera with a 'how the fuck did I get away with that?' smirk on his face.

Someone told me we lost a semi final versus Newcastle in 1999 and I couldn't remember it.

I had no recollection of it what so ever and for someone who prides himself of knowing everything Tottenham, it brought great shame to me personally.

I can only think it brought me so much pain after the Everton defeat, that I just blanked it out of my brain or I'm just past it.

Still can't believe we lost to Newcastle.

I get this 100% - being a poor/average side, up and down the leagues etc. why wouldn't you take a top trophy even at the cost they've suffered. May have been different if they'd ceased to exist but they're still here and they're slowly building again. A piece of amazing history for them to savour.

I do get a bit pissed when these scenarios are put to us as Spurs fans though, in spite of my heart wanting a trophy - the whole "would you take a PL title but then you're relegated next season?" or "would you take the CL/FA Cup (not quite on the same level) and finish 6th?" - it's all nonsense.

Of course i want a trophy/title but i do not want it to cost us our consistency/overall form which has seen us near the top of the league consistently in recent years. The whole Poch process is about long term success and consistency and i feel that has more value than one trophy win followed by years of inconsistency again.

Sorry for the tangent but i see this all the time :)

I'll not forget it.

I was there at OT that day.

I've been following Spurs since '81 and all those results really hurt. However, for some weird reason, I have no memory of that 5:1 Chelsea match at all. It must have been so horrific that I have erased it from my mind :depressed:

It was the second time they cheated us with a dodgy line call.

Too much doom and gloom! Remember when we smashed Watford in 1987 semi-final at Villa Park! Or beat Arsenal at Wembley in 91!
