Toby is a great player and I hope he stays BUT if we can't come to an agreement then I'd be happy for us to sell him for a big fee as long as it's a club outside of England.

If Barca want him then so be it, he deserves a shot at winning a big time trophy and I have faith that we could go out and sign a similar style of player that will be younger and have a longer term future with us.

Nah, Vertonghen was the man last year. Toby was the best defender in the league in his first season with us, but Jan was the man last year, and this.

This season is down to more than just missing one player. We've had a lot of injuries, team has been relatively disrupted through the middle all season.

Agree with this. Our biggest issue was having Wanyama and Toby out at the same time. Forcing us to play Dier at CB and play players like Dembele or Winks as some DMs which did not suit. Then Sanchez got a three match ban.

Sanchez returned on boxing day I think, Dier went back to DM and I believe we have kept pace with City over that period of time.

As for Toby selling abroad is key for me, but ideally we have a real crack at reintergrating him and getting him to sign. If he stays on the fringes the next few weeks it's game over.

P.s. fully agree on Verts>Toby for this season and last.

IMO Poch has managed the situation admirably, we've done really well without him regardless despite the fact that Sanchez is a rookie in this league and we've had a lot of changes in our defensive area since last season and Wembley our defence is still one of the best in the league.

I'm not necessarily worried if he leaves because I think we've proved we can cope without him, I am anxious to see where he ends up though, let's hope it's abroad.

If he goes anywhere, make it PSG and milk them for as much as possible.

If we can re-integrate him into the team and he can help us win the FA cup, finish top three and help Belgium have a great WC, we could easily sell him 60+ million in the summer.

I'm expecting not to see him in a spurs shirt next season and like walker probably wants the big money and prizes now, however if that's the case then I trust poch and levy to do the best thing for the club going forward.

what annoys me that when the club has upped their ticket prices, they can't up the first team squad wages a little. but I wouldn't give in to a player like Toby who is 29 after all. Time to sell and target someone younger.
But in fairness to Toby he has been great but we aren't the club that needs him now or vice versa.

That’s a disappointing attitude, if true.

It is and it isnt. His fellow peer who plays in the same position who isnt as good is getting 180k so he knows he could get similar elsewhere

Wonder whether the club think he is worth 150k a week with no clause as I think Alderweireld would accept. He would be stupid not to

But if we keep targeting players younger we will always be a young side which is an excuse the players keep spouting.

Different Wage tiers IMO

I'd keep him to his contract for the next 2 years and let him leave for free.
In 2 years I think Sanchez will be a much better defender and hopefully young Foyth will be getting a lot more game time.
Flog him now and we need to replace him and that won't be cheap.
His presence for the next 2 years could earn the club 50 million in placing and cup runs.

How motivated will he be though?

If you don't wanna sign for Tottenham or be here you simply don't play for us, that's how in see it, first Walker now Toby. Have to say it's refreshing to see and fair play to Poch. Ship him off and hopefully his career returns to the Athletico days. Chicken badge first every single time.

If Toby returns from international duty, fully fit and 100 percent commited I`d start him against Chelsea and in every other subsequent game for the last part of the season. Whether he signs a new contract or not should have no bearing on that decision.

Toby is in his prime, better than Sanchez (who, while talented is still very young and quite raw) and would greatly improve our chances of finishing in the top 4 and winning the FA Cup.

Should we pay him what he wants? I think we should, but even if Levy refuses, it would be a massive waste of talent to have him on the bench or in the stands. Securing a CL place and winning the FA Cup would be massive, especially as it relates to keeping our other key players. Toby, whether he stays or goes could be key to us achieving those crucial goals.

I agree but we all know that's not how Poch does things.

The moment you step away from being committed to him and the cause, you're done. He doesn't say it in public, but his selections speak volumes.

Have to stand behind Poch no matter what, he's the single most important person at the club after Levy. Players come and go.

And how would you feel if you were Vertonghen, and you had to listen to this bollocks every week?

Vertonghen is secretly loving it. Toby is doing all the groundwork and getting the negative press. If he gets what he wants Jan will follow pretty quick
