Because he’s still a better player than Sanchez, has a better partnership with Verts, and because we are more likely to get better results with him in the team.

I’m not really bothered though I don’t think it would make that much of a difference.
with his current form i don't think he is a better choice than sanchez

It is and it isnt. His fellow peer who plays in the same position who isnt as good is getting 180k so he knows he could get similar elsewhere

Wonder whether the club think he is worth 150k a week with no clause as I think Alderweireld would accept. He would be stupid not to
his injury and recent performance do not favor him in the negotiation, if any
poch said his injury was a tricky one and could be career-threatening which may make levy & poch hesitate to meet his demand

Did i not read some itk saying that wages will be increased at the end if the season?

I flip flop a little between the options regarding Toby but it would be a show of intent if we can nail him and some of the other key players down to longer and improved contracts. Still a fantastic player and although no-one is indispensable, our top drawer players are going to be harder to replace with like for like replacements.

Toby was magnificent for us, let's not talk his influence on our last 2 season down...

Did we cope without him this year yes
Did Sanchez well in his absence yes
Should we go full mental when Toby leaves no

But imo the toughest pill to swallow would be, that we had a cb pairing which was second to none in terms of understanding (an important part in this position for sure) Him and Jan were like brothers, they seemed comfortable alongside each other.
So that would be a huge loss...

Sanchez did well and i think there's a raw talent in Foyth waiting to be unleashed by Poch - so i think we can cope, even tough i would like to get another CB in if Toby leaves...

Bringing Toby into the team lifted Jan's performance and imo they became PL's best cb pairing. My guess is that after the World Cup we will learn what will happen to Toby. I'm pretty sure he will continue playing for us and all of these rumors are just rumors

I would love him to stay, but if we are unable to agree a financial package that extends his stay beyond the current deal then it's inevitable he will leave, as reluctant as I would be to accept this we should maintain firm control over where the destination is. Under no circumstances do I want him going to Man Utd or another English club. It's taken us years to shake of the jibe from others of being Man Utd's feeder club, and I for one don't want this notion to be resurrected. We should be sending a clear message that they don't just take players we want and hand us players they don't.

Why the f*ck should we strengthen them ? It's arguable that if those stupid idiot mercenaries near the Kings Road hadn't given them Matic on a plate, they may not even have been in the top 4 this season, I don't want us and others laughing at us next season by claiming that we have done the same thing by handing them Toby that might ironically give them a top 4 place or some silverware at our expense. The Walker situation is and was slightly different, I think City would have probably won the league this season with or without him.

PSG have deep enough pockets, so do Barcelona and Real Madrid, in my opinion he goes there or nowhere, Man Utd the Chavs and the others can jog on.

All fair points, but what if Utd are the only club with serious interest, bid the most by some distance, and the player only wants that move? Another thing to consider (and this is not me suggesting he is shit) - he has been great at Soton and Spurs, with 2 players in front of him. Would he look as good without that protection, especially bearing in mind he's probably levelling out physically now, and has had a significant injury and rehab period. Finally, how many players look better at Utd than they did at their former clubs?

It does seem like the end of his time here, we have had rumours for a while but it does appear pretty certain now.
Word from the Belgian camp is that he is perfectly fit to play yet Poch isn't playing him, normally after injury he would bring a player off the bench for some playing time to ease them back in but he hasn't done that plus he is apparently using this international break for some intensive work with Foyth.
It certainly convinces me his time is up now.

In a perfect world we would never sell to a domestic rival.

But in reality this is not always an option.

Kyle Walker was never going to go abroad. He’s a northern lad and went to the richest club in the country.

Alderweireld is from abroad and has played in 3 different countries. If we sell hopefully it’ll be to a mega rich foreign club.

But if city came in with a huge bid we might not have much of a choice.

Walker and Man Shitty is a prime example

I'm not that worried about Toby leaving - if he wants to go, let him go. We'll get a handsome price for him and he isn't indispensable to the club.

In fact we only have one player I consider indispensable, and that's Eriksen.

No relevance at all to my post.
Agreed I didn’t explain myself was just thinking that if we can’t match wages he want to sell then we need to make sure it’s abroad and not to a rival like we did with Walker.. however looking at Season ticket prices and probable increased from corporate don’t see why we can’t compete with Liverpool Arsenal and Chelsea...

It would be sad to lose Toby, and playing down his impact would be silly to do. But I feel like there are a lot of very good CB’s out there. For me, the obvious choice is De Ligt, who has been very impressive, and already knows Davinson, and will be well looked after. We also have a beast in Foyth too I feel!

€50m would be okay...to someone like Barca, Munich or even Athletico again! Could find a replacement with that kind of cash!

You don't think Kane is indispensable ?

I don't give a flying *uck whether Toby Alderweirald stays or goes, as far as I'm concerned 2 grand a week is plenty for anyone to earn and especially for kicking a pigs bladder around a pitch. I'll always remember Toby Alderweirald for being a good player who played for spurs and was more interested in what spurs could do for him rather than what it what it means to pull on a Tottenham shirt.
He's been here 5 minutes, players and their faux loyalty make me weep.
C'mon this has been brewing for 18 months, Toby thank you and goodbye and on your way out ask Ryan Mason,Harry Kane what loyalty feels like. You give and don't expect anything in return.

Agreed, and also the player will have the final say where he wants to go.
