Sorry if I'm late to the game here, but I've just read he has a £25m release clause? Is this true, if so what a fuck up!

Keep him and sell him for the £25 million next summer. We’d lose him for free the following year anyway and we aren’t going to buy another centre back as good as him for the price or wages in that time.

I guess if his heart isn’t in it then he’s got to go.

If we sell him next summer for £25m he's free to go to anyone who matches the release clause, we don't want that.

Not in play until next season. So thats the issue. Sell now, sort new contract or keep then lose for small money (in today's market).

You can see why we're so adamant about no release clause in the new deal, they're bloody risky as no-one knows what prices will do over the next few years.
Id guess a lot of Spanish clubs are crapping it, as what they though were high buyout clauses a season or two ago, are now very affordable especially to English clubs.

Thats true, I take it back.

It is only a 2 week window though. I wonder what would happen if we refuse to sign the contract releasing him within those 2 weeks?

A very unhappy player stays another year and leaves on a free I guess

We would face a PR nightmare, have a potentially toxic player in the locker room, and lose major credibility in negotiations with future players.

The clause is for a two week window if we invoke an automatic extension isn't it?

Heard it was far less than that, if he was on £100k a week he would have broken the wage structure at the time.

I'm slightly concerned with everyone making these calculations re wages . We have a lively bonus structure that may make a mockery of fan financial speculations in here .

While it would be a loss, I am not worried if it happens tbh.

Davidson Sanchez is one of the best CB's I have seen for a 21 year old, and is certainly up there with Campbell and King at the same age.

Yes TA and JV have a brilliant understanding, but they have known each other and played together for a very long time. Sanchez has had one season with Jan and they already look very good together. The more they play as a pair the better they will get.

I'm a big fan of having a settled CB pairing so don't want them rotating in the Prem or CL, which is whart I think will happen if Toby stays. As good as Davinson is, he needs to be playing every week with a regular partner, because he's not going to really progress unless he does.

I will be sad to see him go, but all the signs still point to that being the case ATM.

When Poch bought Sanchez i felt it was because Poch was leaning towards playing 3 at the back and wing backs, now i feel he prefers 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 so someone will have to sit out, Toby is class but is 29 with higher demands ,plus he's starting to pick up little niggling injuries. With Dier also able to slip into a back 4 Toby isn't as irreplaceable as he once was maybe?
Maybe Poch will bring in another alternative who wouldn't mind warming the bench and on less money.

Sad to let a top player go, but i get it and as we are not fully aware of the real facts, must trust Poch,

For me the hardest part of finding a replacement for Toby is finding "true pros" (for lack of a better word) who would be happy to be on the bench with minor game time while they learn and eventually compete for a starting spot. Players like Davies feel like a rare breed or come with rather harsh talent ceilings we need them to get past.

Just hope that Levy is prepared to do a Modric and take a hit in transfer fee in order to sell abroad. Problem is you know Chelsea, UTD, City and possibly even Liverpool will be seriously interested.

There’s got to be some high profile foreign clubs that are interested too, though I guess it comes down to whether he wants to stay in the Prem.
