Just hope that Levy is prepared to do a Modric and take a hit in transfer fee in order to sell abroad. Problem is you know Chelsea, UTD, City and possibly even Liverpool will be seriously interested.

There’s got to be some high profile foreign clubs that are interested too, though I guess it comes down to whether he wants to stay in the Prem.

I think Walker was a special case as he wanted to move north and had been a loyal player for a many years. Toby is not northern and so I would hope we revert to sending him out of the PL for a possible reduced fee.

If he wants to go to City then so be it - no one's catching them and if they want a CB, they'll either get him or someone else amazing, so the net effect is minimal.

To any of the others then that strengthens their defence materially - I'd definitely take a hit on funds if that was the case. He'd be perfect for Liverpool or Utd, so as far as I'm concerned they can do one. Also, if he went to one of those two it would show that it's ONLY about money, because don't tell me they (assuming we re-qualify for the CL) have an obviously better chance of winning trophies

However you dress it up losing Toby weakens us

Walker weakened us and Toby will weaken us further

however you dress it up, both players acted/acting like arseholes. yes it does weaken us, but you cold see last season and this both players commitment levels dropped when they couldnt get their own way. im glad poch/levy uis standing up to them, it sets a precedent if they kick toys out of pram and get rewarded with big shiny contracts.

Who the fuck do we get in that will be good enough though? Probably needs to be mid 20s, good in the air and on the ball, and they obviously have to be good at defending. Who is that? Otherwise we're back in the situation where an injury to a starting centreback dramatically weakens us.

would love de ligt, although maybe too raw for the prem.

Toby goes for 40-60m, and your CB options become Vertonghen, Sanchez, Dier, Foyth, CCV and a possible transfer like De Ligt.

IMO, that still gives us one of the best back pairs in the league in Verts/Sanchez with Dier as cover.

Man Utd did a cup double only last season. Whatever our potential is, and as much as I dislike them, Man U are still Man U.

Gards is saying on Twitter that he's not going to Utd or Chelsea. Assuming that rules all PL teams out. I can live with that if we can't get him to stay.

While it would be a loss, I am not worried if it happens tbh.

Davidson Sanchez is one of the best CB's I have seen for a 21 year old, and is certainly up there with Campbell and King at the same age.

Yes TA and JV have a brilliant understanding, but they have known each other and played together for a very long time. Sanchez has had one season with Jan and they already look very good together. The more they play as a pair the better they will get.

I'm a big fan of having a settled CB pairing so don't want them rotating in the Prem or CL, which is whart I think will happen if Toby stays. As good as Davinson is, he needs to be playing every week with a regular partner, because he's not going to really progress unless he does.

I will be sad to see him go, but all the signs still point to that being the case ATM.

Then what do you think will happen when Sanchez gets even better?

Yep, Man City will get him.

This needs to stop. Part of our problem is having a young team so we cant keep selling experienced premier league players every season

Serious question but why would you assume that?
I can think of 2 other clubs, 1 of which especially likes throwing silly money at defenders.

Yeah but they don't need anymore top class central defenders they already have Lovran and Matip

Plus the Scum are full of quality at the back!

What do you suggest we do then?

No doubt losing Toby is a blow, but he's been gone four months now, and we've done pretty well in that time. Who knows how fit he is or will be, he's had two pretty big injuries in two years now. It is OK to try and think about it in a level way.

While I agree, maybe missing Toby was the reason Juve was able to defeat us.

Without Toby we're a very good team, but with a fit Toby we're a team capable of challenging for everything as he makes far less mistakes in defense than Sanchez currently does.

Yeah maybe, but he wasn't fit. And when since he's declared himself fit, he's looked rusty as heck. And he's missed a seasons worth of games across the last two years. I don't for a second want to play down how good he can be, but we've managed a lot without him, and is he ever going to be fit enough for long enough? Without knowing all the medical stuff, it could be that we'd be getting a great deal at £50m.
