Not going to happen! Be SHOCKED if that changed. There is actually better and younger out there. Media not far off our supposed interests. I don’t believe Toby is the same, along with his injuries. Let’s get real please. Commercial decision to sell in excess of 45m, we cannot ignore. And bring in a quality CH (versatile) with presence, pace, and distribution.

Evans? Short term in my view.

He deserves to be paid the same as any centre back in the league so pay him. He should start against Chelsea and prove his fitness for the remainder of the season. If he does, give him 120k a week and a 2m signing on bonus on september 1st for every year he stays. Think of the message alone it would send to the other clubs. It seems there is a 3m discrepancy with what he wants and what levy wants to pay him each year. By giving him a 2m annual "loyalty" bonus could swing it. Who else are we going to get instead? We need experience and we need continuity and we need to tell fuckers like united city chelsea barca madird bayern psg to go fuck themselves

He is world class. We cannot improve him so we must keep him
I believe we offered basically what you suggested, but the problem, which you have not mentioned, is the buy out clause he wants to be stipulated in the contract

Seems like it really is coming to an end then :(

A damn shame. Couldn't blame him if be wants to go to Madrid/Barcelona or if he just wanted to get a payday and goes to PSG.

Absolutely phenomenal player and one of my absolute favourite spurs defenders. I just pray we don't go for Jonny fucking Evans.

Conte thinks he can do a job at the blue scum.

If he is to go then i dont mind as long is not to a team in the premier league so spain or psg works for me. I think bringing another youngster may work

I could see this working as a swap deal, madrid have a few players that supposedly getting shipped out and just happen to be our ex players. And psg have rabiot who we chased for a while and would be a perfect fit next to dembele.
Rabiot will move, I think he only has a year left on his contract, but I doubt we would have a shot at him. A lot of teams will want him, and I still think he is holding out for a mega deal from PSG. Assuming we can’t get Rabiot, I would ask for Lo Celso, been really impressed with him so far. Obviously If he goes to RM I would ask for Kovacic.

Really tho, I can’t see a swap deal happening, but if Toby has to go, then I hope it’s to PSG. Can’t stand RM.

Tbh it’s hard to imagine spending £50m on a CB when weve already got Sanchez vertonghen Dier foyth and davies if need be. Plus Ccv in wings and tanganga. Would be very hard to justify spending another £50m. Essentially Sanchez was alderweireld replacement and foyth replaced Wimmer.
I basically agree. If I had to guess we'll invest heavily in central midfield and play Dier as a CB more often.

The main reason he insisted on playing DM was because he thought it'd be best for his England career, so if Southgate is playing him in the middle of a back three he should have no complaints doing the same for us. That's his best role anyway IMO, and allows for maximum tactical flexibility.

With moura, lamela, eriksen, dele and son are we going to be playing a back 3 that often?

I just fired up a new FM18 save, and I am playing Eriksen in a CM2 - we'll see how it goes. But watching him play recently, he comes so deep to get the ball anyway, I think he can be active enough defensively to make it work with Wanyama as his partner.

But, I agree, its hard to see Poch going back to a 3421 with the attackers he has. I would not mind if he played a little tighter in big away matches, and started defensively, and kept his attackers on the bench for late against tired legs. Kind of what Chelsea did to us last year in the Semi's.

Isn’t the risk with he he stays scenario that he will be able to choose who he goes to if his clause is met - so more chance of joining a rival vs if we sell him on our terms this summer

I just don’t see the risk as being that great. If he decides not to renew, and nobody bids stupid money this summer, then I just don’t see anybody paying even £25m + potentially giving a £7.5m a year contract over 3/4 seasons to him when he’s thirty and barely played in two years, which will be the case given how much faith Pochettino has in Sanchez and how little Toby is already being used. Not to mention, if he’s going for as ‘low’ a fee as £25m, he’s going to be demanding a whopping signing on fee as is his agent.

It all just seems massively unlikely, I actually think that if he doesn’t sign and nobody bids crazy money this summer, he’s as likely to leave for free in 2020 at the age of 31 as he is to leave for £25m in summer 2019, because him signing means him not playing, which further means him not showing he can get back to his best. Because we only paid £12m for him or something and he’s only on £50k a week, we can actually take the ‘risk’ as he makes an excellent reserve centre back and these days that’s not even the going price and salary for a reserve degree back.

The odds are massively in our favour. Like I said, if he isn’t happy to sign our clauseless £110 per week offer then he’d better have a sensational World Cup, otherwise he’s going to be trying to convince someone to pay him more than that when he’s 30 and barely kicked a ball in anger for two seasons. Not a strong bargain position,

We hold the cards.

I appreciate your positive outlook Hercules, but there aren't many affordable/available centre backs that are better than Toby.

Maybe the writing has been on the wall for longer than anyone outside the club has comprehend. We spent huge money on Sanchez and he's been excellent considering his age. Just speculation of course but maybe Pochettino knew that we'll lose Toby in the 2018 summer window and planned for it. Very shrewd if that theory is the to be believed.

Anyway my gut feeling tells me he's gone. Usually when you hear about players stalling on new contracts it's not a good sign. I think we just have to accept that we're not quite there yet in terms of keeping our best players. In reality there's only two clubs in England that have the pedigree and money to do that, United and City. Arsenal couldn't keep Sanchez, Liverpool couldn't keep Coutinho, I believe Chelsea might be forced to sell Hazard and we've had our fair share of shipping out world-class players before. For now that's the reality but we've made immense progress just over the course of a few seasons. Right now we have a number of world class player that could play anywhere but chooses to stay. Onwards and upwards.

Insert a buy out clause to take effect in 2021 to a non premier league club for 25m
