Very surprised Levy agreed to this clause in the first place.

He’s got us by the balls on this one.

Perhaps that is why he agreed to join us and not honour the arrangement he had with Southampton ?

As I said before, we signed him for 11m. The 25m buyout didn't look too shabby then but a couple of seasons of hyper inflation make it look a lot worse now.

This ^^^

absolute disgrace letting another player at the peak of his career go. He is genuine world class

Meanwhile in the real world the players hold all the aces.

The only player we let go happily was Walker, tell me exactly what you would do if you were Levy?

From levy and certainly pochs perspective the most important thing is keeping the harmony ticking over if that means a player is surplus to requirements then so be it.
Walker left obviously for bigger wages and prizes which he has achievd so far one in the bag the other three quarters in, but with clever scouting and recruitment players can be replaced as long as the right mentality and quality is evident.

That's the thing, if Toby was desperate for a particular prem club, would we write off say circa £15 million, to deny a move, especially if we were said amount short of acquiring a top talent we'd like to purchase.

We did it with Modric, Real Madrid got him cheap.

Yes, have to agree. Again, Modric was happy to go abroad in the end. Only Alderweireld know's where he wishes to ply his trade in the future. It is not beyond impossible for him to end up at a rival. Unlikely...maybe, impossible...no.

Well if he does truly want to leave to 'win trophies', then there's only one English club he can leave Tottenham for. And they just spend £60M on a centre back.

Absolute worst case, if his heart is set on a rival, he goes next year for £25m. We literally have no control over that. He plays another year for us at 50k a week whilst all his colleagues get nice pay bumps. And who knows the situation then.

Personally i'd push for and take £45m -£ 50m now from a Real, Barca or PSG, meaning it will be closer to £35m because they know we'll not want him to go domestically and they will be in a relatively strong position to haggle. All things considered I don't think that's the worst considering the situation.

If its about the money he has PSG. If it's about trophies he'll go Real or Barca (they'll pay him well there too) - as lets face it, they have a stronger chance of domestic and European titles over Chelsea, United and Liverpool at this moment in time and for the foreseeable future.

The only domestic club there's a real case for him wanting in truth is City, because they have the money and the ambition that ticks both. Then we would probably have the choice between £60m domestically or £35m abroad (assuming Toby is open to both). I think our game against City will show us how close we are to them, or whether realistically they are out of sight for another year or so. That might sway our reluctance to sell to them.

If an agreement cant be met by the start of preseason there is no way Poch is going to keep him for next season.

There is no point in having a player in the squad who isnt going to be there the following season.

Thought the rumour was he wants to leave Italy?

Shame if true

Only rumoured of course but gathering steam. Tbh I can't see a world where we would get him anyway given the wages competing sides can throw at free transfers.

Will be very interesting if he and Belgium have an amazing World Cup. Personally right now I think club aren’t too bothered if he goes, but an amazing World Cup could change all that. It may force their hand too keep him.

More likely that an amazing WC would see his value surge, and make selling him this summer even more appealing Imo.

Mate, if they want to leave they will leave. You can delay it like Arsenal have done and they leave for nothing and go wherever they like. Look at the mess they are in now contract wise. There is nothing any club can do if a player is determined to go. You can't make them sign new contracts.

My Italian mates, say, you can.......

What became of Football Manager legend Éder Álvarez Balanta? A left CB presumably well used to playing next to Davinson given that they must have come through the Colombian youth setup together.

Joined Basel couple years ago. I imagine he is one of those who showed early promise but never really progressed. He's 25 now.
