I haven't seen anybody who are among the more sceptic fans bring up his price tag in a very, very long time. It's only the pro-camp who keep going on about the price tag, because it serves their agenda to make it seem like Sissoko is still being criticised due to his price, something he had little to do with. He is simply being evaluated, and found wanting, for a PL player for a top 4 club, regardless of what he did or didn't cost.He is a good squad player. The reason he featured so much pre-Xmas was that we had injuries to Lamela (long term), Wanyama (long term) and Dembele (on and off) and he played well in terms of carrying out Poch's instructions, especially in transitional phases of play (you can look up the Poch quotes if you hadn't seen them at the time). If he'd cost £10M I don't think anyone would have a problem with him. But because he cost £30M a lot of fans (somewhat understandably) take ironic pleasure in the fact he has such a heavy touch and sometimes appears a bit clueless in possession. Yesterday he actually had a pretty anonymous first half, playing mainly in a hybrid LCM/LCB position, and aside from a simple pass to assist Lamela's goal, and a worrying escape under a bouncing ball on the half way line when they threatened to break on the counter after one of our corners, did not do much. Second half he looked much better. And that was because the game opened up in the middle of the pitch and he played more centrally. His strength is powerful running in a straight line vertically with the ball from the middle third and breaking their lines. Sometimes he does this with skill and sometimes with a magical bobble, shuffle, and a hint of luck. Open games like this are where he does best, and we do not get many of these as weaker teams park the bus, and stronger teams he is risky to pick as he lacks technical quality and may give up possession too easily. His skill set is really suited for a team in 6th-10th, who all teams have a go at. I can see why Everton wanted him when we bought him. What is noticeable is that his passing has greatly improved. Against Bournemouth he played a few incisive passes, and he repeated this in the 2nd half yesterday. If he keeps applying himself and also progressing then I can see Poch keeping him in the match day squad.
