It's funny, I don't really understand where the hype from Jonny Evans has come from in past year or two. To my mind he's always been a pretty bog standard CB whose level is very much of the WBA's of this world, maybe better considering they'll be relegated but certainly no better than a mid-table prem side.

I tell you what as well, this is saying something considering that he and I have the same name. I should be pulling for this signing simply so I can see my own name on a Spurs team sheet
The hype is he's an ROI machine for websites having now been linked with City and Arsenal plus a former United player and his agent knows it (or knows enough). Those articles circulate quick through social media outlets and search algorithms which up views. Toby with his links now to just about every top team in the PL and Europe means a ton of stories will continue about him because they're just too profitable and low impact. Combined they are basically a web manager's wet dream.

Where is your evidence for this?

No evidence. Just being realistic.

And based on the ITK from the last window + asking price + the bigger clubs have their eyes opened for Sessegnon - we're not getting him. Our chance has passed i'm afraid.

Guardiola didn't try to buy Evans for City because he was tricked by Google.

Not disputing nor indending to say he was. I was trying to explain why he gets hyped and discussed so much in the media, not why he gets signed or pursued by clubs. Those reasons are incredibly boring and obvious, he's english, he's been at a major club, hasn't been too shite lately, a cheap risk for depth option, etc. etc.

He gets hyped because he's being pursued by top clubs. He isn't a high enough profile player for the papers to care about him otherwise. There are plenty of players who get touted for moves purely because their name sells papers, but Jonny Evans isn't one of them. Also he isn't English.

Your logic is arse about tit - he isn't being linked with moves to City and Arsenal because his name is in the papers, his name is in the papers because City and Arsenal want to sign him. Guardiola has gone on record saying he wanted to buy him but the asking price was too steep.

I think replacing non HG reserves with HG options where we can should be a priority.
If Toby goes, Evans would suffice but Mawson would be a lovely shout (and future proof against Vertonghen’s age).

Replacing Sissoko with any talented home grown number 8 would be wise, and I’m not one of those who thinks he can do no right. The big question is who? Onomah and Winks just don’t seem likely to push on enough and, against, we need to future proof against Dembele getting old.

If Rose did leave then only someone HG, Shaw potentially.

At least one of Gazzaniga or Vorm should be replaced with an HG. If none within are good enough I’d definitely take back David Button. Going for whichever of Heaton or Pope Burnley don’t want could be prudent.

I don’t see any point in touching the front 4 positions, that includes persisting with Llorente because, frankly, we do need a target man alternative to Kane and nobody will do better with the minutes Kane’s back up gets/ be happy with it.

If we were able to get Arp in as Kane backup from Hamburg he wouldn't count against the quota due to his age.

Based on what Hercules has said all indicates towards Tah. But take it we are looking at other centre backs in Germany too, anyone have any idea who that could be?

I disagree on winks great player just been unlucky with injuries. Onomah hard one, has the ability just needs to learn to dominate like Dembele does.

Sissoko, Jansen, Llorente, Aurier, Kevin, all need improving.

To expect an 18 year old with 8 Bundesliga starts to his name for the league’s worst club, having scored twice, to be anywhere near the standard needed to back up Kane, would be folly. Additionally, it would completely stunt his development to play that role as he’d never play. He seems a talent but to develop he needs top level football, not to be a barely used reserve at a top club. If we signed him I’d hope we loaned him out for a season.

We need another number 9 at the club, if we’ve deemed Llorente not good enough then his profile... established striker who’s happy playing second fiddle, is still what we should replace him with.
