This definitely seems like journalists have been briefed by the club now. But they way it's worded makes me thing the club definitely looked at a deal.

Or one person runs with a story with no quotes from anyone and others follow suit? I doubt levy or posh would be telling the press who we are and arnt after.

In case you haven't noticed, ITK and transfer stories in the press never have quotes. That's not how it works. ITKs and journos are told stuff by their sources, they don't interview Levy.

Do you believe no ITK or media stories then? Because they're not directly from Levy or Poch.

Might also be a message to other players we want to sign, that we want them and won't suddenly drop out of negotiations to try and get Bale

Putting 2 and 2 together to get 5 isn't getting information though, we all know the fee and wages needed so they say we won't go for him. It might be true but I don't believe there is anything behind the story other than linking one to the other

I believe that not all things in the paper are true. Do you believe everything in them?

I think he’ll go to Utd, and we’ll have a clear run at Martial. That way they sell to us but strengthen themselves too. Rich twats

No, but in this instance I believe that the club have probably told journos that we're not gonna try and sign Bale.

And tbh, do we really need journalists to tell us that this deal isn't happening? We've had ITK saying the same and just common sense should make people realise that it is not financially viable.

Our ITK guys, Sky, BBC and the newspapers say it isn't happening. Curious to know what it will take for some in here to accept it.

Bale is like Jennifer Aniston for me, never going to happen, but watching them makes me feel things. Ill accept it when he signs a deal with another club or a new deal at RM.

So much for Bale being born to play for Spurs.

All about money.

Wonder if he will get the same reception as Walker... Probably won't as our fans are blind when it comes to the Bale love.

Why would Bale be born to play for Spurs? We were just one club on his path to become one of the best players in the world and unfortunately we’re not at the level of a team like Real Madrid.

Additionally we weren’t even his boyhood club so I’m not sure why we should expect a special affinity.

I enjoyed watching Bale play for us and hold no animosity toward him for moving on, for a bigger team, better chance to win trophies and more money.

Not that I think will happen, but the one thing I don’t get is why bother going to the trouble to negotiate a buy back clause ( which would have involved agreement between all three parties) if there was never any intention or feasible way of using it?

It’s not like any of it was supposed to be for public consumption to appease the fans. Or does Levy just simply get off on negotiating pointless clauses?.....

.... actually, I think I know the answer to that already :D.

Bale may not have worked out for some reason, there would have been no way of knowing exactly what our financial status would be as a club when the time came for Bale to leave Madrid, no way of knowing his wage demands in the future etc. Don't forget, the £600k salary he gets now is after signing a new deal in 2016, he wasn't getting that when the clause was being thought up. Just common sense to try to work something in.
