Only happens if Malcom doesn't.

Malcom only happens if Pulisic doesn't?

Pulisic onl/...

Ive watched 10 minutes of YouTube highlights and I've convinced myself that I want him. Somebody delete YouTube.

And fuck his hairline has deteriorated since he joined stoke.

So would anybody’s. Charlie Adam was a supermodel before he joined Stoke - exposure has rendered him a rock-eating, spud-headed, fat, punkass bitch

I cannot see this happening.
If in a worst case scenario we do buy him, I guarantee he will score more than Lamela in our team given same playing time.

Charlie Adam is a decomposing potato with violent tendancies.

He has Special Brew on his cornflakes.

We've done worse multiple times for a lot more money to be fair. I'm not actually against the signing, I just wonder if we'd need such a player. Although I will say, if we're chasing a game looking for a goal, I'd probably have more faith in him finding one than I would Lamela or Lucas, early days for the latter though I know.

I agree, too early to call a shot on Lucas (fwiw I think he will become a great player!) I have a lot more faith looking to our bench to Shaqiri to come on and make an impact than Lamela, who despite putting massive amounts in for the club (not for one second disputing that) boils down to the fact he doesn’t have that much of an offensive impact on games at all.

Shaqiri can come on and explode past players, have a dig from range or link up team mates.

Not sure he is what we need. But In this market I think there is a spot for him at a club who is trying to compete on all 4 fronts

Which basically means it happens.

I’ve long since lost the ability to get giddy over big name links, especially when they are attacking players. We just can’t compete in this market without finding deals like this.

Lucas Moura is a good example of that.

Problem is, Shaquiri doesn’t improve us, whereas Moura did. If we want to compete for titles next year then we need to be a bit cleverer than this guy.

I bet we sign him though. Would be classic Levy.

At that price it may mean more funds available for other players. I'll keep an open mind for now!

Initial reaction was surely we are aiming a lot higher than this. But reflecting on how poor we were at times without Eriksen, how thin creative options on the bench looked at times and how difficult we found breaking down buses at times then he starts to look like a fairly inexpensive and useful squad player.

Wouldn't put any pressure on the starting 11 whatsoever, so what on earth would be the point?
If we're gonna justify a signing just because he's a better squad option than Sissoko you're setting the bar low.

We need to be aiming for signings who keep first teamers on their toes but more importantly if started or were rotated in there wasn't much of a drop down in quality.

Shaqiri doesn't give you that, he's nowhere near the level we should be aiming to add to this current squad.

was it Scott Parker who said we sign too many average players who just get in the way of the kids?

this would be one of those signings

He is much better than average. Good value too. And he covers the creative AM role. Not going to be earth shattering but still a decent option, especially if we can then go big on CM. Or Bale...

At £12m in today's market it's worth the flutter. He's more than technically gifted, it would just be a case of sorting his mentality out.

But I very much can't see us being interested. Much more a Southampton signing.

assuming his attitude fits with our group he'd be a good option.

The concept of him not being of a certain level seems to me to underestimate his technical ability and also fail to appreciate how many good squads are built.

Leicester signed Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood, Mahrez was signed for 400k, Chelsea won the league with a converted attacker in Victor Moses at full back who had spent the previous season at West Ham. Ray Paulor was not at the same level as Dennis Bergkamp, Wes Brown or John O'Shea not the same level as Rio Ferdinand. Yet all these players played important roles in league winning squads. I could go on there are a ton of examples of unfancied players playing key roles in successful squads. Fabian Delph another example a player you would think not on the level of many in the Man City squad, played a vital role this season despite never being a marquee signing.

Equally there are a ton of examples where clubs sign 'high level' talent for 'high level' money only to receive a poor player. Football and squad building is a complex business with almost all squads being about blends from top level players down to squad players lucky punts and youth prospects.

On paper Shaqiri is exciting because we know he can perform to a high level in the Premier League, he fills a gap in our squad giving us a technical backup or alternative to Eriksen Alli, Son or Moura. He has European big club experience with Inter and is a key man in his national side. His 12m release clause makes him undervalued in the market. Even if his signing didn’t work out the potential to invest 12m and turn it into 20m within a year is there.

It makes sense for us to try and sign him, if it makes sense to him is another matter.

At least we might score a free kick from time to time.

I love how it’s a Levy signing and Bailey (for example) would be Poch :)
