Toby and Josh are like two new signings. A fully fit Moura too. Re signing Harry, Son, Lamela etc. and hopefully more contract extensions are great news as we always used to lose our best players, not commit them. Add to that English talent / potential in Grealish, and Zaha then it’s looking like a good window. If Zaha was foreign, we’d be playing soggy biscuit over his poster. Zaha brings pace, is proven in the EPL and Poch wants him. Anything on top is a bonus (which would be a Dembele replacement if he were to go). It’s looking good methinks

Whether people like it or not, signing zaha would be a statement signing. Big money, and adds danger to the attacking 3rd. Allows us to play on the counter against teams that want to dominate possession. If he's the lesser of the 2 options, then I'll be delighted

Whilst I agree with you somewhat, the key issue we have had is breaking down teams who put 11 behind the ball. We need players who can commit defenders, who can go around them and get behind with the ball at their feet. With the exception of possibly Hazard I'd say that Zaha will more than likely have the top "succesful take ons" statistic in the league. I think a lot of people in this thread will be pleasantly surprised at how good he is.

How many teams dominate possession against us? City and.... I'm struggling now.

He also has trickery in abundance which will play a big part in one on ones against teams playing deep. I can see why he has qualities Pochettino admires

Don’t think this is in here. hertyid on coys regarding zaha.

Everyone knows we tried before. But I've seen or heard nothing to suggest Levy is going to spend £65m on him (£23m more than our previous record signing).

Fuck me, the wet blankets on here are breeding.

"We're not signing anyone, Poch is going to leave. Wahhhh!"

"Oh my god, why are we wasting our money? I don't care if Poch loves him."

Almost always the same people too...

Get a grip, FFS.

A dozen?? A dozen wingers in the Premier League? Are you sure? :cautious: Fair enough if you don't rate him, but Poch clearly does and that's all that matters.

Depends on your definition I guess - if we're thinking wide players I'd put Mane, Salah, Firmino, Sterling, Sane, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Hazard, Son, Sanchez, possibly Martial. Splitting hairs though really, he's still a good player, would be very happy with him.

People are allowed opinions, this is a discussion forum, you don't need to insult them.

Who out of that lot can we sign at this moment in time? As soon as Man City were in for Mahrez that ship sailed and the others, no chance

Very true - I interpreted it as Poch thinking he was the best in the league rather than best possible signing.

I’m so nonplussed about Zaha, especially if he’s our biggest signing this window. At least Poch genuinely wants him, but I’m unenthused.
Agree big time. After all the hyperbole spouted at the start of the window, if our three signings are Grealish, Zaha and a defender that's a massive let down. Look out Man City...

May not agree about teams that dominate possession against us, as agree only city had last season, but teams that are either sitting in with 11 infront of us, we only have 1-2 players that can consistently beat a man, otherwise sideways passing not going anywhere. Zaha will take players on and stretch teams much like Mane does for Liverpool, which will create more opportunities and space for kane going forward.

Wonder if we have already had talks with him and he’s had a look at our facilities/stadium like martial had.

people complain that levy doesnt back the manager and go for his choices when there are so many fans that aren't backing poch by turning their noses up at zaha, if he's the one poch wants (and the number of times we've gone for zaha over the years suggests he is) i'm happy.

Champions league teams away from home is more what I'm thinking. Teams like Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern would be terrified of him breaking through their defence. This kind of discussion is probably more suited for the player thread, but the point stands, he'd be a statement signing. Brilliant bit of ITK after its seemed so bleak on here recently

I'd put a lot of money on those people having not watched much of Zaha in the last 2 seasons.

I don't get how some people aren't even a tiny bit excited at the prospect of signing Zaha. He's such a joyous footballer, beats players for fun, and will provide us with a genuinely different option when we're struggling to break teams down.
