Bennett’s was hardly destined for stardom. Scored a few good free kicks and also had some poor games in uefa yth lge. His move to Germany was easier to make than for others as his mother is German, he speaks German and is qualified to play for them. We shall see but I don’t think either him or Reo will come back to haunt us.

he hardly just scored free kicks -

he has a good set of attributes to work with and progressed a lot over the past 18 months. what level he ends up at i wouldn't like to say but i don't get this attitude that they're only really a loss if they're a world class talent.

Genuinely 2 footed. His biggest problem was his final ball, but like Son, if he can make a habit out of cutting in and banging it in, he'll do OK.

In among all of whats going on, wasn't there a rumour that Hinds was thinking about leaving too. I wonder what convinced him to stay in the end. He's actually one I think would have been one of the more successful ones abroad if he had left. Moreso than Griffiths. Good for us that he is staying though, he's a bit more versatile than KWP and can play LB better, though he is a RB.

Also I've not seen the whole game yet, and no ones really mentioned it but shoutout to Eyoma for last nights game. One of our really big talents, I'd say him or BLF (I'd personally go Eyoma) are our best ball playing CBs. He was passing out from the back calmly and with either foot under some pressure at times. He is also the best at carrying out from the back I believe. He could be a proper CB if worked on and I'm pleased he had a great debut

I like BLF a lot but I agree Eyoma does look very capable at centre half, his time at right back seems to really boosted his confidence with the ball at his feet.

Guendouzi looks exceptional were we ever in for him ? Can’t believe they’ve got him for £7m. Will be a £50m + player in 2 years.

Not that I'm aware of. Hudson-Odoi was tearing it up though, won a penalty and Morata should have had a hattrick from his assists alone. He is serious quality.

This is a genuine question, but who would scare you more in a CM2 in the PL net season, Sissoko or Skipp (or Amos)

Yeah agreed certainly wouldn't be worse and potentially a lot better especially in the long run.
I dont really agree that a bad game could destroy them, to get this far you have to be pretty resilient. Under that logic no one would ever start a career. You have to start somewhere. Winks was thrown into the white heat of battle and relished it

Yup Odoi looks a superstar exciting for England. But morata was so bad.

Was having a look at Lyon squad in transfermarkt. Looks as if they have one main striker and x2 kids 18+19 who griffiths will be competing with. Both have many France age group caps so must be pretty decent and both had about 10 appearances for for senior team. No idea if any players listed as winger can also play striker and possibly they may still buy another striker. So Griffiths is likely to be 4th or 5th in line at best no better than his situation with us. Also noticed their two 18/19 strikers don’t have any youth appearances listed like U23 just CL youth games. Does France have an equivalent U23 league otherwise he will sitting on his arse a lot .

Exactly this. And this was my major frustration. As I've always said there are so many players in our academy that could play for the first team at some level. Look at Marsh the guy looked competent out there, but because I and others know we can't play them all, we have to be realistic and only suggested those that were consistently head and shoulders above their teammates. It is therefore so frustrating when these guys get missed out. It's great when any academy player comes through, but the ones seemingly getting selected, if I or others had suggested they should play for the first team like Georgiou and Amos, people would laugh and say we're overrating them. And yet here they are more than capable, and it irks me, that steady eddies are getting these chances while those with massive potential for whatever reason aren't, while it would be great if Amos gets a start in CM I will just see the potential we're missing out on with Onomah. Those guys will likely not improve the first team, but our best academy players could.

Anyway as above I've always said, like other academies, there are so many players that could be playing first team football, at some level, and I noticed a few years ago, as the academy got better we were reaching a point where we were producing too many players, who understandably could never expect to get a chance with their clubs. Truckloads of talent was just being waste, no club can expect to bring through more than 2 per year, but it's great that these players are finally realising this and seeking opportunities abroad. Really can only be good for England

Bring back the reserves and the third teams too
Works in Spain.
Can't remember now why they were dropped.
Must be better than constant loans and players leaving.
Keeps them in the club and ensures competitive football
and a route to higher levels.
Doesn't it?

This reminds me of a very similar interview a few years ago with Edwards, CCV and one other I can't remember - kiss of death!

CCV's career is progressing well I think. And apparently Edwards is about to sign for a decent Bundesliga side - hardly failing in life.

I've been watching a lot of American Football docs and their talent conveyor belt is cleaner than ours. We stick colours on a kid early, whereas if you make it in the nfl anywhere that's a huge trophy to both your high school and college.

What's the French reserve league like?

Spain don't have a reserve league/teams, they use B teams and youth sides - and yes it works for them.
The issue is England has more league teams than most other countries and introducing B teams (which I'm in favour of) would sound the death knell for many lower league teams.

I believe the way Spain and Germany alleviate the affect on lower league teams is by strictly allowing for the maximum 25 players per squad. If you're not registered in the league you don't play. For U21 players they also havr to be registered and can play no more than 5 games in either an A or B team and still be allowed to move up/down between teams.

It means the clubs can't really horde players but can still get them in competitive football.

If it was Spurs, you'd effectively have 2 squads of players (50 in total) regardless of age - all registered. All other players would be part of the academy league or not play.
