So you think we'll run the risk of him leaving a year later rather than accepting £70m for him? I think he's such an important player but letting him leave for free when you're trying to pay off a stadium and build a team is crazy. Got to take the money if he wants to move on and reinvest it wisely into the squad IMO.

He's clearly a class act but you can't let him leave on a free transfer
i guess it would depend on who we are able to bring in to replace christian. he'd have to be able to get pretty close to eriksen's level because i dont think we can get Champions league without Eriksen's supreme creative output. Which imo is worth more than a £70-£80m fee.

selling eriksen is more disastrous than not signing anyone

Not getting a fee for him a year later when he's one of our highest priced assets is a disaster in itself. If he doesn't sign a new deal we simply have to move him on next summer as painful as that is to face

Your whole hypothetical scenario is based on him not signing a new contract, why don't we just wait till he rejects a new contract before we start wetting ourselves.

We are not selling Eriksen this year.

If he does not sign a new deal, we will sell him next summer.

This is not rocket science folks. Stop dreaming up ways for the sky to fall.

Of course it's based on hypothetical things like many things are when discussed on this forum. I'm just sayin that it's a big reality it will happen and if it does would you settle for a Grealish, Sessegnon in, Eriksen out window now. That's all no more, no less

If i recall correctly he signed a new contract at Ajax just before leaving to get them the best possible deal, I doubt he will wind down his contract with us and screw us over just doesn't seem that type of lad

If he refused I bet he would.

Rose, Walker and Toby are far superior to those Poch replaced them with all because they were noncommittal.
Not like he couldn't just use lamela there
Rose and Toby didn't play because they were unfit and horribly out of form.

since we didn't spend any in the window, i hope we can offer him a lucrative contract even it may mean that we won't sign anyone again next summer. he is the brain of our team.

You'd think Eriksen, Dele, Lloris and Vertonghen would all be considered to be somewhere just below Kane, who's just signed at c.£10m a year (£200k p/w). So maybe around £9m a year (£180k p/w) for them. That ought to be enough to keep them happy!

Just seen the Mail article. Pay him near Kane money. Doubly important with less than 2 years left. He's a world class player and is just coming into his peak years...

These exact same reports started coming out about Toby before Xmas last year.

I cannot for the life of me understand why we wouldn't pay Eriksen a comparable wage to Kane. It would be utterly bonkers.

He is absolutely pivotal to our system and we wouldn't get anyone better.

I really hope we get this sorted because first Toby and if Eriksen follows suit, it really isn't a good sign.

Mail reporting that we've reached a stalemate in talks for a new deal for Eriksen...
I think it is pretty clear we have either stalled or he has put it off until after the close of the European transfer window with all the pre-World Cup rumors and itk he had signed/agreed a deal. We were dumb to let him leave and let this saga go on any longer than the minute he said " looks good" but we have seemingly made an art of being dumb this summer...

Why does this always happen with our big players.....
Because this happens with most big players...

See, Arsenal (Sanchez and Ozil) last season; watch the same thing play out at Chelsea (Courtois, Hazard), See, Liverpool (Coutinho), See, Man United (Pogba wants out), etc.

We are not special when it comes to big players wanting new challenges.

he's likely leaving next year, unless we do the double or something. he has said on more than one occasion that he has "a plan" and we are where he needs to be "right now". Im not trying to piss in anyone's cereal but he has ambition bigger than the current club he is at, IMO. would love to be wrong.
