Watching those clips above - and it looks like a learning opportunity for him - knowing when to pick the pass, after he has the defender committed to defending the dribble.

If he can learn to be that guy - draws defenders out of position, but then knows to pass the ball - he can be effective.

And of course, this is easier when you've got good players around you making the correct runs

He certainly looks very talented in those clips

Hopefully it's just nerves and a lack of maturity that's holding him back; things that can be remedied in the next 2 or 3 years

dropped to the bench today for the visit of ajax, with excelsior choosing to go more defensive by replacing him with a holding midfielder.

not that it worked out very well for them though as they lost 7-1.

TBF, they didn't replace him with a holding Midfielder, they replaced him with a 18 year old that plays as both a #10 and a box to box midfielder. Their last 2 games prior to the thrashing by AJax, they lost 4-1 and 4-2 to 2 of only 3 teams below them in the league, so they seem to be really shit ATM. Wouldn't surprise me if they sack their manager and bring someone else in. Not sure if that would good or bad for Marcus.

Ajax and PSV have so much more quality than the rest of the league, its like Rangers and Celtic 10 years ago. Ajax have won by 3 or more goals in 7 out of 12 games, drew the first game and lost 3-0 to PSV. PSV have won by 4 or more goals in 6 out of 12 games and have won every game.

well i watched the game and the player who replaced him played sat in front of the back four so regardless of what he usually plays as they decided to use him defensively this time. whilst it was disappointing to not see marcus, i'm also kind of glad he didn't play as all he'd have been doing is defending so it wasn't a game that he would've been able to do much in.

Marcus Edwards, Excelsior 18-19 (Spurs loanee). That is a LOT of successful dribbles and a LOT of turnovers. Not much end product yet.

Edwards was a unused sub in a 2-1 win for Excelsior. Next opportunities for Marcus to play will be on

Friday November 30th vs Utrecht
Friday December 7th vs PSV

Was not named to the subs bench yesterday. Wonder if he has an injury?

Seems to be losing a bit of momentum there...let's hope it turns around a bit for him.

1-7 vs ajax and 0-6 vs psv probably aren't the worst games for him to miss.

it is strange how he's gone from starting every game to not even getting off the bench as it's not like he was playing terribly, he was just missing the final ball. maybe they just wanted to take him out of it having played a lot, hopefully he can get back into the side and come back stronger for it but i've noticed with this coach that he doesn't rotate much and given they only play once a week marcus will need to be patient.

or he's just not cutting it as a player in their squad?

Sadly, this. He has done little of note in his outings and in no way stands out in a squad mired in mediocrity - Eredivisie mediocrity that is.

I'm sorry to say it, but at this stage Edwards is nowhere near the level required to make it as a Premier League player, never mind making our squad. Hope springs eternal, but his window of opportunity is closing fast.

Lets also add that he struggled for games at Norwich, albeit because of his attitude at first.

I dont want to knock young players, but at this point what else is there to do? Send him out on another 2/3 loans like it seems were doing with Onomah?

Think its best for both parties to go their separate ways in the next 6 months

I think Edwards and Onomah will get into their stride around 22/23.

They will be late developers like Lingard and Mason, that’s the hope anyway.

Probably won’t be our concern anyway; does not look like they will be here then still, sadly.

If that’s the case for a Edwards he will find himself out of football before he shows anything.
