Isn't Ziyech only a year younger than Eriksen?
yes and he's had a very questionable attitude in the past. Dont know if it still is, but he reminds me of Ozil which is both a compliment and concern, but I really wonder if Ziyech has the work rate and personality to suceed Eriksen.

Eriksen for isco and thats that. Isco is the same age and is in desperate need of a new and proper home and we could give him that platform he needs to be loved and appreciated.
I know we have struggled to get these top players before (failing in the end) but surely surely now we are looking to be a fantastic option for these big players?

Is it just me who thinks Isco is increasingly more overrated? Bit like Kovacic. Good player but a clear step down from eriksen

To be honest I think finding a player on par with Eriksen in our price range will be impossible. Players like Isco or Asensio are pipe dreams. Ziyech has seemingly put aside a lot of his issues and his work rate has gone up dramatically so far this season. Not sure the exact reason but he's been putting in a shift. I also find him more of a goal threat then Ozil and a better dribbler, and he has certainly been consistent. I would love us to get Aouar from Lyon as an Eriksen replacement but he will be expensive, as will most other known youth prospects like Havertz or gibbs-white and all of them would take time before they can deliver at our required level. With Ziyech we would have a player, who whilst not as good, will do a job and we won't need to wait for him to develop. He wouldn't be my first choice but he would be a sensible one. Suso is another one that could work, although he would probably be too expensive. Replacing Eriksen will be impossible, he is a world class talent.

he's never really hidden his ambition. I think if the opportunity to play at an elite club comes up he will take it. and here's the thing - as good as he is Im not sure he's that good, to pull all the strings in a CL final for example. But I wont begrudge him trying to find out.

Completely agree, we wont be able to immediately replace Eriksen. As for creative midfielders in the Prem he's only behind De Bruyne.

I'm not against Ziyech as he's a massive creative force, but I dont think he should be our first option.

Thought he was fantastic yesterday. Moved the ball quickly and effectively throughout the game and his goal was incredible.

No surprise our best performances in the league (Chelsea & Everton) have been when he is playing at his best.

Ali z on COYS saying it’s 50/50 he signs the new contract or goes to Barcelona:

“I would say it's 50/50 he genuinely is only interested in the one club and not a secret if you have a look at his quotes.”

Personally I’m not sure how much difference that makes from when he signed his last contract as I suspect he’d of fancied them coming in for him then too.

They are really keen on Frenkie de Jong, who will cost north of 75m. They've also got Coutinho for his position, who has cost them 140m. And they have needs elsewhere in the squad too. So they may well decide to pass on him, in the short term at least.

Question is therefore: Will he run his contract down to join them on a Bosman or will he extend and pocket what should be a hefty pay rise?

I think your question is why he maybe in no rush to sign.

De Jong will be too expensive for them and will probably go to City. Personally, I expect Barca to get Rabiot then wait until Jan 2020 to get Eriksen on a cut price deal.

New quotes on him here.

Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham would like to keep Christian Eriksen for the long term but admits that the player's situation is "dynamic".

The Danish playmaker produced a typically outstanding display - including a great goal from 20 yards - as Tottenham thrashed Everton 6-2 on Sunday.

Eriksen's contract expires at the end of next season and he continues to be linked with possible moves to some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Asked if he thought a new deal could be agreed with Eriksen, Pochettino said: "Football is so dynamic. It changes every day, every season.

"It depends not only on your decision, but it is always a player's decision.

"Now is a moment to enjoy our present.

"Of course, it is a person that the club wants for the future, but now we need to be focused - a player like him is focused and tries to deliver a great performance in the way that we need.

"A decision is going to happen at the end of the season or [maybe] another decision will happen in the next few days, in January.

"Football is so dynamic - it is decision, decision, decision.

"I hope we are going to take the best decision for the club and hope the player can take the best decision for them and for the club - it is about negotiation and many things that happen.

"Football is so dynamic, always you need to move on."

Sounds a bit ominous really. It sounds like he either decides to sign a contract extension in January, or we will decide to sell him in the summer where he will have one year left on his contract. Think he may be the one key player that we do finally lose :(

1 thing we know is that the board always looks to maximise sales, hence the January quote from Poch.

Can’t blame them if he’s not going to commit. But if Barca is his only team and they’re not interested now, I hope he signs an extension
This is it. Same as Toby really. Agents playing Billy big bollox but if there isnt the offer on the table that you want to use as leverage you end up looking a twat and it may backfire.
No point worrying about any of it anyway until it happens and even then theres fk all we can do about it so why worry.

The section highlighted also to me seems like we may be looking at a swap deal of some sort, otherwise why January, why not Febuary or March. January is only important if a player is moving. I know he isn’t the best English speaker but Poch is no fool, he is using the word dynamic to suggest that it is very likely Eriksen will leave in my opinion. There is to much in flux within his statement and not enough belief in a positive result.

In reality, the moment we passed the two year deadline last summer I think it was fairly likely he would be moving on. Considering his caliber, every super club would be interested in him if his contract was running out. Ultimately he came to us exactly the same way he may leave. I can’t really blame him ether. He is a world class talent coming into his prime, he could be staring for Barca, Madrid, Juve, Munich etc. I think we have to accept it is very likely he will leave.

What makes you think we would make a swap deal? When did that last happen?
