Little gem from arsemania:

No way should we be settling for not making top four, either. Emery has the team to get us there and has to make it happen. We're a better team than Spurs and Chelsea given how we played against them and should be winning games like this here today handily. No excuses.

Really don't think there's a single player of theirs who'd walk into our starting 11.

If Carlsberg did dementia ...

Can someone explain why a load of papers have backpage headlines about Spurs being in the title race? They are the same number of points off he top as they were before this last round of fixtures, so they were already in it, or they still aren’t in it.

Fucking idiot headline writers.

This is how Spurs do title races, they stay just far back enough that nobody worries and then, at the last minute, they do nothing.

Well firstly there's him/her seeing that Spurs are now being declared part of the title race and from that assuming things like "[they think] we are an irrelevance" and "the person/people involved in these articles are either thinking or hoping we have no chance". That's a huge leap from a journo thinking Spurs are part of the title race to that journo thinking "we are irrelevant" or that journo "either thinking or hoping we have no chance". It reeks of paranoia and thinking that there's some sort of anti-Liverpool conspiracy behind the articles.

Then there's the lack of understanding of what a team in third place needs to do to improve their chances of winning the title. If Spurs are going to win the league they're going to have to do both of the following;

1) Reel in Liverpool
2) Reel in Man City.

Gaining ground on either of them (whilst also not losing ground to the other) will increase their (remote) chances of winning the title. They did that at the weekend.

Also, for right or for wrong, Man City are still the favourites to win the title (so says Betfair, Will Hill and Ladbrokes). The title isn't handed out in December and there's still half a season to play, so Spurs making 3pts on the favourites is why their title chances increased (however slightly) at the weekend. It's not because the media think "we are an irrelevance" or "think or hope we have no chance".

They're as much in the race as the lad who comes 3rd to Usain Bolt...

I think if we were 2 points off City and Tottenham were 6 points ahead we would think we were in with a chance. Especially with 12 or so of the last 20 at ‘home’. I wouldn’t discount them yet. But they need to essentially be perfect. They will certainly be looking at the Arsenal and City double header and their games and thinking there is a chance there to close the gap.

Beyond the bluster this is what it’s all about though. Looking at permutations for finishing fourth is shit, for the title I can be up all night looking at them

This gives “top four is our everything” a run for its money!

Any news on their stadium? Are these fuckers going to end up getting a boost at a crucial stage of the season from moving into a new home with a crowd that’s well up for their games?

Obviously it’s up to us ultimately, but there is a potential situation coming up that could, and should, have been avoided by the FA telling them to fuck off and stay at Wembley as long ago as October.

You know what, I really like Son. I think he's one of the most under-appreciated players in the league. Seems like a really decent guy, a bit like Ox, and he's as willing a worker as a prime Kuyt!

It would, obviously, never happen, but I'd absolutely love to see him in our side with Klopp coaching him. Don't even know where you'd fit him in, but he's one I'd always try to make room for. Only Spurs player I'd take.

Ticked all the Son boxes there! He’s been getting huge praise all season, and a lot of praise for a good 18 months now. And on here in particular, pretty much whenever he plays you see a lot of ‘he’s a Klopp player’!

Yep. Son’s entering Makelele territory now- when the whole world says you’re underrated you’re not actually underrated anymore.

They're playing with a midfield of Winks and Sissoko and their finishing is running hot as shit. Until the 5th goal they were on an xG of 1 today but had 4 goals scored. Whereas Bournemouth were clean through before Eriksen's first goal twice yet couldn't finish even one. It can't last. They have no way to control the game right now with that midfield.

Spurs second now ffs

F*cking hate football atm.

I'm not worried. @Makingtrax suggested Spurs will definitely fall off. Even if they are currently level on points with City

Could we catch City? Title race already looking like it could be done this weekend.

Liverpool and Spurs are chokers. They will choke soon enough. Disgusting teams.

11 goals in two for Spuds now

Spurs popping cherries. Only this time, it's legal.

Spurs looks strong as always its still half of season but they in great position to finish 3rd

5-0 .... first Everton rolled over last week now its Bournemouth. Embarrassing stuff.

Kane, Alli, Son and Eriksen are all producing at the moment, it’s very annoying. For us Auba is leading the charge but could really do with a bit more input from others.

Alright Bournemouth you’re embarrassing me now

I said it could be a tricky game, never said Bournemouth would actually get a result. Eddie Howe is a fraud, bring in Arteta.

For all the praise Man City are getting.. spurs are ****ing level on points! They deserve some more credit unfortunately.

Spurs deserve zero credits. They should already have been docked of 10-15 points for their stadium behavior this season.

Bournemouth genuinely could’ve scored 3 today, the one time Lloris turns up...

As fans we need to stay humble, and leave all the praises and accolades till the end of the season, going under the radar always serves us well.

Every week since the season has started, the prophets that be have continuously waxed lyrical over Liverpool and city clearing all before them yet within 4 days who would of predicted palace and Leicester turning them over? We have had different types of issues to face and come through them which has galvanised the team, but like city who are now showing a little vulnerability, let's see how Liverpool fare after a loss going into the 2nd half of the season.

Take it game by game no gloating and enjoy the ride, COYS

7 of next 9 prem games at “home”

If anything the CC clash with Chelsea will fuck them up.

They’re only 2 points behind us. If we fcuk up at Leicester, we will be 3rd by the end of Boxing Day.

I don't want them winning it either. They broke an 18 year old's heart back in 1981. Fuck them.

I’d much rather Spurs than the red scouse for the league.

Son. Most underrated player in the league.

A seven point deficit can be overturned easily enough, we did that in April alone never mind December. Liverpool deserve to be there let's make no bones about it and the game on 3rd January is an absolute must win, nothing less.

Spurs are up there too playing some great stuff so it's going to be a very interesting 2nd half to the season.

December has been a nightmare month and it's a combination of injuries to key players and fatigue which has really caught up with a few players too (Walker being a prime example) World Cup and then the congestive Christmas period.

If John Stones is the only realistic backup in midfield when Fernandinho is injured then we need to sign a DM in January.

The problem is who? De Jong is the obvious one but we need someone who will come in during January.

Pool and Spurs will have a wobble too hopefully although not guaranteed but if so we need to make sure we take full advantage.

The 3rd January game at the Ethiad has now become a real 6 pointer even at this stage and if we are to have any chance if retaining the title, we simply must win this game.

To put this is perspective... if the dippers lost Salah, VvD, Firminho and Mane for a month or Spurs lost Kane, Ali, Eriksen and Song would they lose form....

Since West Ham we have effectively lost Sergio, KdB, silva and Fern... okay serge and KdB played on Boxing Day but both are returning from injuries...

Spurs are 1 point ahead of us, and if anybody asked me whether they were still in the title race, I would say absolutely. So being one point worse off doesn’t mean we aren’t.

I keep forgetting Spurs but really I've always said Pochettino deserves more credit than we've given him the previous 2 seasons, this season he's definitely due some, considering what's gone on in the teams around them.

Spurs didn't strengthen though, yeah I agree with some of your points, but also spending money doesn't gaurentee anything.

They massively raised their game for us, and it's becoming clearer by the match that their performance in the derby was a one-off.

They should realise that, but they won't, and it creates delicious turmoil.

Not to forget we were knackered after winning two big matches in the previous few days.

I don't understand viewpoints like this. Why should we be docked points? For what reason? The only people who are losing out on this are ourselves, it doesn't affect the other 19 clubs in anyway shape or form.

I only read this thread for a laugh as most of the quoted posts from other clubs are done either by those with a screw loose or those who are blinkered idiots

They're just desperate and bitter, trying to find any reason for us to finish below them. It's sad really, but at the same time absolutely hilarious.

Agree. They’re panicking now that we have quietly creeped up the table. They are just using these excuses to console themselves.

Let’s see what other comments they spew out if we keep on our winning streak in the following weeks / months.

Its great seeing rival fans getting worked up over Spurs. Our wage bill is half of theirs and most of the other top 6 have spent near 300+m more than us over 5 years

The most significant thing about the derby was energy levels. We had Chelsea and Inter before and it showed.

Teams we are yet to play us 'at home' could argue they've lost an edge having to play at NWHL when others didnt, but we've been beating everyone bar City and Liverpool at Wembley anyway.

No one looks at the situation and think we've had a very difficult 18 months and done brilliantly to cope with it. And now we have acclimatised that maybe it's a disadvantage that we have to now go to another stadium and settle.

If we are on for the title at the end of the season it's a nailed on certainty that the complaints from other fans about our stadium situation will grow to a crescendo, bring it on.:)
