As much potential as Werner has, if we've hypothetically got £60m to spend, would a striker/attack-minded player really be the priority over a top-class CM? Leaving the Kane injury to one side for the minute, we're pretty well stocked with forward thinking players, but still lack quality in the middle.

We're going to need to replace Llorente either now or in the summer so if we think we've found the right player we might as well go for it. We obviously still need a CM, but we seem to be struggling to find one that ticks all the boxes.

Even if we were to agree a fee (never going to happen) - Chelsea would blow us out the water on wages and match it straight away.

They’re dying for a quality striker more than us at the moment.

We’ve been down this road before.

It would not suprise me if Werner already signed with Bayern and they're keeping it quiet, exactly the same like they did with Lewandowski before. Its optimistic we're looking at the right players like him, De Ligt or De Jong, lets keep it that way and maybe we may be able to complete one out of ten or so. This plus picking distinctive players from Championship is exactly what we should do.

If DL decides not to sign or loan a CF in Jan and we fall short of top 4 come May. Does the risk of losing Poch increase? I think so. Now that would be the biggest problem.

DL is renowned as an astute business man. Therefore does he risk not signing players and potentially missing out on CL qualification and income or does he back Poch and show him we mean business and give him the tools to achieve what we all want.

Agreed, but we did all make the same compelling arguments in the summer.

Now more than ever seems the time to go for it.

Missing out on CL and losing Poch would be a disaster, even if we spent £100 mil on a multi role atttacker and a midfielder the long term benefits of CL and keeping Poch would IMO outweigh this. It would be very short slighted not to back Poch in such a situation.

As always thanks for the info (as well as the other ITK’s on this site).

It would take us back to 2013 but without the prospect of recruiting another Poch. Fucking disasterous- it can’t happen. Surely not

Look at his previous record I think your answer lies there.

Maybe eventually the lessons will be learnt? Hope they've dusted the fax machine off.

Wake me up after deadline day tbh.

We have 4 games coming up over 10 days to finish out Jan. With that in mind we really can’t wait until the 31st to do this, or any other striker/midfielder deal. I really hope we are moving with a purpose this time round.
