I must admit (not to sound like a melt) we are at the stage of the season where my head is gone! My sanity slips away week by week. The Brighton game I was in bits, at one point I made a weird whimpering sound as the tie looked it was slipping to a 0-0. Then I went from screaming at the tv for Spurs to score a goal to urging them to " PLEASE just hang on!" for 4 minutes, even though Brighton had offered literally nothing all game.

I really just want this top 4 wrapped up as quick as possible, this weekend would be ideal. I'll be an even bigger state watching the West Ham game...I have no clue how I'm gonna cope with a CL semi final!?

If we can beat West Ham on Saturday, with a bit of luck the other results will go our way and this can be done with.

Are you sure that Spurs

All that is needed is for us and Leicester to secure wins this weekend for us to have CL next Season, irrespective of all the remaining results of all the other affected clubs until the end of the season.

Equally, us and Man Utd securing wins will also secure Top 4, by my calculations.

Yep barring a pretty unlikely GD swing of 11 goals or more. Even allowing for an Arsenal win the table would like this:

Tottenham: 73pts (max 79pts) GD +31 (min)
Arsenal 69pts (max 75 pts) GD +24 (min)
Chelsea 67 pts (max 73 pts) GD + 20 (or lower)
Man U 67 pts (max73 pts) GD + 14 (min)

And the goons are extremely lucky to have 66 points considering Watford couldnt have done more to give them that result...

So who would you guys prefer to sit in that 4th slot (if indeed we do get 3rd)?
My thinking is that it would be best if it were Chelsea with a transfer ban?? That could be potentially less damaging in a competitive market for players - (again, making a massive assumption that we haven't decided to explore the possibilities of an indefinite policy to sign zero new players)....

Now that they've lost the derby, a Utd win or even a draw would be absolutely huge for us. Unfortunately Utd v Chelsea is like the opposite of the immovable object against an unstoppable force and is a complete 50/50 of abject shitness.

I woudn't be remotely surprised if Chelsea pulled out a win and Utd started seriously questioning Ole's future.

I hate Chelsea more than anyone but I'd prefer them to get top 4 this season. They're going to lose Hazard anyway, they have the transfer ban coming, and Abramovic seems to have lost interest since his visa issues. If they get top 4 they're more likely to keep Sarri on board for another season, who the fans hate and doesn't seem a good fit. They're in a bit of a negative spiral and their squad looks weaker every year. I don't think CL will have a huge effect.

Arsenal on the other hand are at a crossroads. They seriously need to reinvest in the squad and if they made some intelligent signings they could become a threat. Lack of CL would limit the types of players they could attract and the amount they'd be willing to spend. It might also make players like Lacazette and Aubameyang start to wonder why they're dragging that sack of turds through another season in the Europa League.

I also have a bad feeling Chelsea will win the Europa League so at least if they get top 4 too that removes the chance of 5 English teams in the CL.

I agree. Arsenal failing to qualify for the CL for the third season running would have serious knock on effects on their budget and prestige. It would mean they were effectively becoming EL regulars - something we took years to climb ourselves up from. It would also put Emre under more pressure next season as I imagine they appointed him with the target of getting back into the CL as soon as possible. On the other hand qualifying for the CL and an EL semi-final or better would be a pretty solid first season.

My thoughts exactly on Arsenal. We really do have an immense advantage on Chelsea, Arsenal and United in terms of what we can provide to any young star that we may be courting; we have a real project with an explicit, upward trajectory alongside a stadium that will blow anyone's beans, training centre that is amongst the best in the world, a squad of hungry and talented players. However, saying all that, I still fear that those teams look more attractive to players due to a massive wage incentives and global appeal. If we could choose, i'd definitely pick a Chelsea hamstrung by a transfer embargo.

We are quite clearly the third best team in the league. On top of that we played most of the season at Wembley and had huge injuries all season.

It’s amazing that Arsenal, Chelsea and United are still so close to us points wise.

No spurs players in team of the season. Just shows how well we have done as a team. Prob only Sonny would have deserved it.

Looks like Leicester will be the kingmakers. They play Arsenal (home), City (away) and Chelsea (home) in their last 3 matches.

Can't see both Arsenal and Chelsea beating them, Leicester have looked brilliant at times under Rodgers.

More dropped points for our rivals I think.

Very clearly third best team I agree, and I think the fact that we are in this scrap is 100% down to our poor transfer windows rather than shortcomings our squad. If it wasn’t for the crazy injuries that we all saw coming, I think we would be right up there with City and Liverpool.

It’s not that complicated.

He can’t see us winning all of our games...

A few weeks ago, did he see us in the semi-final versus Ajax...?
Oh this makes sense now. You mean “a few weeks ago, did you imagine we’d be playing in a SF against Ajax”? I completely misunderstood your first post which made it sound like you were from the future.
