Exactly, Lyon have said they’re getting a replacement in before they do anything with Ndombele so don’t think the silence is anything bad atm

With Aulas saying Ndombele will go as soon as his replacement comes in and with his replacement having a medical on Monday I am surprised so many people think it's all gone tits up because it isn't done yet.

It's really bizarre to me that the sequence of events has been spelt out by their owner and yet people are still being fragile about it, at least wait for that checkpoint to pass.

Bottom line is we know nothing. However, not a lot of reason to be too upset or too jubilant. The club has presumably leaked that we are confident of the deal happening. That means negotiations have been ongoing, and either the deal has already been agreed, agreed in principle or the negotiations are progressing in a manner where both parties know an agreement can be reached. We know that the player is happy to come, doesn't mean we are his first choice, but if the clubs agree we assume Ndombele won't resist the move. But let's say that an agreement has already been reached, it is clear that Lyon would ask that nothing be announced until they have secured the replacement - they have already pretty much stated as much. So this could be all done and dusted and we would be hearing exactly what we are hearing now - radio silence. Equally it could be almost done and we would hear nothing. Or the player and his agent could have decided to wait and see what other options would transpire and we would hear nothing concrete. Obviously we really want him, but Lyon have no particular interest in selling to us over anyone else, while the player will only be interested in the best possible move. Personally I think the deal is all but done and Lyon are holding off until they have their replacement in. They would be stupid to do otherwise, and it is also in their interest and the players interest to wait as long as possible to see if a big team comes in at the last minute. I don't think there is anything else that Levy or the club can do at this stage, and there is always the chance that PSG or Madrid swoop in at the last second. A few million here or there is not the point. It is the advantage you would always have by being a bigger club. If there was a player we might be interested in as a plan B or C, and Brighton were in advanced negotiations with him, we could also comfortably sit back knowing we can blow them out of the water at any point. Nothing in the world Brighton can do about it, and offering a few more million wouldn't make any difference if the player knew we were so much as sniffing. Of course it's a nightmare for us. The good thing is, we are moving higher and higher up the ladder so there are very few clubs who can do that to us now, and at the moment at least, they all seem to be sniffing elsewhere...

Normally I'd agree, but in this case I'd just pay the money.

It's a great opportunity to start putting a real gap between us and the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal in terms of the quality in our squad.

At some point, there will always be a correction in the market and sellers will have to settle for less.

The boom will go boom, as it were, although I believe Basil has an even pithier way of putting it...

Bentaleb was clearly holding in that system, Mason didn't take turns to hold and visa versa.

I'd personally put money on Dier being his partner in a double pivot.

I disagree but I respect your opinion.

I’ve said it before, this feels like the Dave Sanchez transfer. According to the papers Real Madrid were gonna get him and then few days later he was announced to us.

There’s also some really dodgy “NDombele sister’s classmate” type “ITK” making the rounds too. This thing needs to end ffs.
