Jan is such a cult hero at the club & Poch’s comments are worrying to say the least, he provides us with great balance & assurance at the back.

We just have to trust MP! He 100% knows what he is doing. He knows this team needs a rebuild and Jan as good as he is was starting to show signs of being slightly off pace at the end of last season in certain games. We have had 7 years of Super Jan and I hope he sticks around but if we have serious ambitions this in all honesty is probably his last year as a 1st choice CB at this level.

He is also prone to the odd drop in attitude, he was one of the players the MP challenged when he first arrived after Jan shrugged through a season under AVB and Tit Sherwood!

Very concerning situation.
Jan only said 2 weeks ago how happy he was at spurs so what on earth has happened? why cant the club be honest with us fans and tell us what is going on.
When Koscielny refused to play for them lot, the club come out and told the fans immediately, why do we cover things up from fans all the time?
If he is going through, its a real concern with the window closed, to think Toby and Sanchez for rest of season with back up of Dier, Foyth and a kid..... scary as hell to think about.

After Kane and possibly Dier, Jan is the last player I would expect to cause issues. He's so professional and reliable. Worrying.

I very much doubt that there’s a problem.

I strongly suspect Pochettino is playing games with team selection and will continue to do so, and just as he refuses to explain tactics in anything but the most superficial way, he’ll continue to be opaque about this sort of thing.

Wtf. Speechless. Poch does seem like a bit of a drama queen tbh sometimes. Obviously idk the ins ands outs and neither do really any of us but yeah -_-

3 into 2 does not go, and we have three very good centre backs to choose from as well as very promising players in Foyth and Tanganga. I absolutely love Vertonghen but if we’re going to spend a year bemoaning lack of depth, then we can’t start setting ourselves when our depth means that our favourites don’t play. We have a very good squad.

Have to remember Jan is 32 no doubt we are succession planning but also no doubt some mind games from Poch to push everyone to work harder.

Use senior squad member as an example that no one is undroppable.

Let’s hope he trains better this week then, because Sanchez didn’t convince me today.

Really? Thought he was very good apart from the goal, where he was too worried about Wesley and not worried enough about the ball. He was strong, assured, and good on the ball.

So edgy. Poch is acting like how I thought I'd act when, at 16, I wanted to be a a manager.

So much false profundity.

I just think he wants better competition at the back. Our defending wasn't great last season so he's now shaking things up. I can see Dier playing more at CB this season so that will only make for strong competition. This will certainly keep everyone on their toes. Expect more decisions like this throughout the squad especially now we have the strength to do so.

Why are you lot so desperate for drama? Last week it was Eriksen because he missed a penalty he doesn't give a shit and now he's ok again (for a bit) you need some other disaster. When it's time to worry you can worry, until then calm down.

I swear my image of half of this forum is they wake up in the morning and look out the window, and if it's cloudy they run around their house shouting about how the sun has died and we're all going to starve and we need to call NASA so that they can oh wait it was behind a cloud, the sun is out and it will never go away! Sunny days forever! I love how the sun OH GOD ITS GONE! THE SUN IS EXTINGUISHED AND THE APOCALYPSE HAS oh it just went behind a cloud again but its here to stay now etc etc etc

Whichever way we slice it, this season Sanchez needs to play more than both the Belgians, as next season he’ll have either one of them or neither of them to partner and we need st least him to step up to be the main man. So if we have him in with one of them, and then Dier on the bench with either Davies or Aurier (as that effectively covers the entire defence plus DM), so be it. Painful but necessary in my view. If Toby or Jan don’t play they’re almost not necessary in the squad, and if it means that they remain rested and strong for the big tests when we need both of them (like next week potentially), even better.

Hadn’t thought of it like that. Good point!

This is a mountain out of a mole hill. It doesn’t mean he’s done anything wrong, perhaps it just means Sanchez has been performing better in training.
