He is fine at 40m range, good player, would improve us and add depth and can start immediately. If we don't have the cash hopefully got alternatives like Ederson in Italy ready.
I just don’t think we are in a place currently to spend £40 mil on a depth signing. He’s a solid player but when all are fit I don’t see him starting. Also Re ITK I think Fofana would be a much wiser move if we are willing to spend £40 mil on a CM. He looks an exceptional talent.

The big plus point for Gallagher is that he’s HG but as a talent I think there are better out there. Doesn’t mean I think he’s bad or I wouldn’t be happy if we got him but personally for the money quoted there are better out there imo.

Personally I think £40m is an absolute bargain for Gallagher when you look at prices paid for English players, £105m for Rice, £70m for Mount, £100m for Grealish.

At £40m I would do the deal right now. Way better suited to the system we play than both Skipp and PEH. Natural replacement/rotation option for Sarr. Another leader on the pitch and helps the HG quota.

Biggest issue would be how much he actually wants the move.

Yeah I think for HG, relatively young, and when buying within the Premier League, £40m is not a huge outlay these days.

Look at some of the fees we have paid for players from other English clubs, both HG and non HG: Richarlison, Johnson, Maddison all reportedly cost between £40-£60m. At £40m Gallagher would be at the lower end of that.

Having said that, a lot of people here will argue that buying within the Premier League is not good value, even at this price. But I think it depends on the HG issue and where Ange sees Gallagher fitting in with that as well as with the squad in general.

All three of those you mention were grossly overpriced and not worth near the amount paid. Even Rice although a very good player is not 100 mil good even in the current market. Saying that In comparison to the three you mention yes you’re completely right that 40 mil for Gallagher is a good price but when you start looking at the market abroad it doesn’t look so appealing imo. If your primary criteria is a HG PL based player then yes of course I completely get the logic of going for him but if it’s to find the best possible addition from any market then I don’t think 40 mil for Gallagher is such bargain. As said, I don’t think he’s a bad player I just think we can do better if we actually have £40 mil set aside for a CM and if that player doesn’t need to be HG.

I don’t think that’s the case tho. I just do not see the club spending £40 mil on anyone this window. Not unless we get a good fee for PEH which I strongly doubt we will. Also with Gallagher, if they don’t renew his contract then his price will certainly drop come summer, much like PEH. I’m sure we will be very aware of Chelsea financial position and will value their players within that context.

Taking into consideration our limited budget and the likely low fee we will get for PEH, baring Chelsea panicking last minute which could happen I can completely see us going for Phillips on loan towards the end of the window with the aim to reassess the situation in summer.

Obviously aside from all that there is the big question of if Gallagher would even say yes to coming if he’s still starting for Chelsea but that’s a whole other topic of conversation.

Sarr and Bentancur say hello too.
There's enough on both sides of the equation, Porro and Royale struggled, Son took time to adapt (injury didn't help).

The league is definitely faster and more physical tha other leagues. Some players are just born to play in the league like VDV and Udogie. You could argue Sarr didn't make an impact last year, probably due to coaching but Ange has unlocked him this year.

Emerson was signed as a RB and thrown into a Conte RWB role.

Porro was signed just before our entire season capitulated under Conte and had 3 mangers in the space of 3 months of football.

No player can come into a team, be asked to play out of position and/or go through more managers than calendar months in his playing career and still be expected to adapt right away.

What we can expect is that players who are scouted well, ideally utilising (at least partially) data, who come in to play for a manager with a defined style of play, will adapt well, whether they are from the PL or not.

I think the main issue is that players from the Premier League are often overpriced compared to their non Premier League counterparts. But there are occasional deals to be had: like Bissouma and Maddison, for example.

I think that is the way the club will be looking at any potential Gallagher deal. That possibly there’s value here if Chelsea need to sell or are keen to sell due to FFP.

Once Werner signs, I want us cock out and balls deep for Gallagher.
For no reason other than it would send their fan base over the edge.

We shall bath in their tears for weeks to come.

(That aside I also think he’ll be class for us and a huge upgrade on what we have)

I don't know why - but I get a sneaky suspicion this will be a deadline day (or deadline week) deal. If there is a window opportunity open at this time to bring in a player Ange really wants, and Chelsea (for inexplicable reasons) want to play ball, then why not push out the boat, before the window of opportunity closes.

And if he does arrive, PEH leaves. But as I have said before, homie needs to accept that what we want for him in terms of price, can only be afforded by PL clubs. No club in Europe right now will give us 20 or 25M for PEH. But, there are clubs in the PL that will.

Juve are meant to not be wanting PEH with the prices offered, so not sure we will see PEH going unless something drastically changes. Plus I can't see Chelsea selling Gallagher late into the window with no one to replace him also.

They probably wanted to sell him, rather than loan him.

Maybe they know they’ll be getting money in from elsewhere..

Interestingly they extended his contract before loaning him out so they are obviously hoping someone will pay up come summer.
