Nice to see us getting our business done early for once . Making a statement to the others we want to be in the title mix this year.

could be a very relaxing stress free deadline day this year 😎

I hope it's done in time for him to be in contention for the United game. I know Emerson has done well, but I really want us to go to Old Trafford with 2 recognised senior centre backs.

Be lovely to get these couple of deals done and through the door, then in the last week or two as other teams get a bit separate see if we can move on any of the deadwood.

I think it’s probably already too late for United, but even having him on the bench would be a lift

Having a look though and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but VDV had his first training session for us Wednesday the 9th of August, before we played Brentford 4 days later where he started. So still time with that in mind, if Ange feels he could do the same again.

Nah, Ange played Van der Ven 7 days or something after buying him first game of the season.
Definitely could be. Ultimately Ange will do what he sees fit which is fine for me.

Possible it’s not quite apples to apples given that the alternative in Aug was prob to play Dier or Davies (who had looked very rough in preseason) and Ange wanting to immediately stamp this new play style on the club from the jump.

might be slightly diff now that he has guys fully bedded in and used to playing his system. I’d probably still rather see him on 3-4 days training vs Emerson, but we shall see

Imo if we could actually save a couple of million, then we should, even if he misses United. As long as we get him in the end and he's the right man.
Every once in a while I make a wildly unpopular post, but I stand by it :X3:

I'd just rather we got the deal right. He could come in against United on the back of a single training session and give away two pens for not being up to the pace. None of us will ever know. Just happy to be patient, personally.

Take your points, I just think we are all used to Poch's not playing new signings for months still. If a new signing comes in and picks up Anges philosophy quickly he will play them.

Italian speaking keeper, Italian speaking left back, Italian speaking DM, Italian speaking AM. He’ll be fine to go straight in

Emerson and VDV against United. Dragon on the bench. Emerson has done well the last few weeks.

Or he could make two game winning challenges. Who knows?

One thing for certain is that neither of those scenarios is possible if he’s not even signed.

Those hypothetical extra points could be worth a lot more in May than saving a couple of million quid in January.

I have a lot of sympathy for Emerson and I've never liked the pile ons he has suffered, however, he was badly exposed vs. Brighton by relatively basic (but effective) centre forward play. Not saying Utd pose that same threat with their front line, but there are elements of his ability that can be exposed given he just isn't a centre back.
