I mean it’s a big if but if that’s their price you’d think we could potentially shave a few mil off that. I’ve always thought £35-£40 is a fair price for him with 18 months left so £45 is not unreasonable imo.

I’m not a massive fan but I don’t dislike him either. By most accounts he sounded like Ange’s number one target as well so that alone is worth pushing the boat out a bit. Having said that I can’t see this happening at all this window.
And that could be what we end up paying in the summer. Depending on budgets etc, saving £10m by waiting could make a lot of sense.

Yeah for sure. Obviously there will be other clubs in for him then but Chelsea will definitely have to start coming down in the summer.

With Maddison, Vicario and now Dragusin all being identified as the right characters who, more importantly, want to play for us (like really want to) I can’t help but feel a lot of this will also come down to Gallagher and how much he wants to come to us.

Hackney, Wharton, Alex Scott, Gibbs White, Dewsbury-Hall, all decent alternatives.
What is the bang for their buck compared to Gallagher?

I don't think anyone would pay £55-60m package for Gallagher, that's way overpriced.
Surely if Chelsea need to sell for FFP and more importantly they need a striker badly, they are in no position to overprice.
£40-45 max and I'm not sure we would pay that without getting a decent price for PEH.

Like I said - just wait till near the end of the window and see if there's a better deal to offer to Chelsea.

Long-term - Skipp is not good enough to get significant minutes, and we should not count Kulusevski as a CM - if we are relying on him to be the primary RW.

I'd say it looks more like this:

6 - Bentancur & Bissouma
8 - Sarr & __________
10 - Maddison & Lo Celso & Donely

So, this summer we need an 8 - a box-to-box who can compete with Sarr, or if you like Bentancur in that role, a 6 to compete for a starting role.

We then have to decide what we are doing with Lo Celso - either upgrade or extend.

I'd have Kulu as a utility player, especially with all the cups next year.
His engine and ability to put his foot on the ball could mean we repurpose him as an 8, I don't like him as a primary RW, he's simply far too predictable, good for an in game change swinging a cross in against the low block but I'd rather have a proper tricky winger that takes his man on both ways, like Bakayoko etc.

Agree with Skipp, he's not good enough, his only saving grace currently is his HG status.

GLC and his constant injuries are a worry, I don't think we can go into next season with more games and have him in the squad, he's not reliable enough for us to push on.

The one thing Gallagher has that PEH has is his fitness record, he's always available, that's a pretty important trait to have but I don't think he's worth £55m, I'd rather someone more technical, but I think the Sarr role gets the best from him due to his engine, defensive cover and late runs.

Still need another lock picker, if Maddison gets injured then our dynamic changes.

My issue with all this, despite the fact his fee is wildly inflated, is that he doesn’t want to leave Chelsea, he has stated this multiple times. He is a Chelsea boy through and through. It doesn’t really tally with Ange wanting players that are desperate to join us..

And, assuming we eventually sign Kelly - we are reaching diminishing returns on HG players - particularly those that are Association Trained - we only get 4 extra slots in European competitions.

Not worth it! Thank the Almighty we wouldn’t even consider paying 45+ incentives they would want. Wish everyone would wake up and stop championing him

I don't think loads of people are championing him at £55m, most of us are laughing at that valuation.

I agree, even if we chuck the cash down I don't think that sits well with him, or his family, the hatred is too intense for him to join, I can see him at Palace in the summer if they sell Eze.

Of course, if Chelsea do not make the Cup final, I expect the board to sell Gallagher right out from under Poch.
