A lot of fans are in for a shock when they realise that we have been playing with a greatly weakened squad for the past couple of month.

You can picture them mumbling "where's Hojberg,Skipp,Johnson,Werner, and who are these guys Son, Maddison, Sarr, Kulusevski etc....". Gonna be a painful lesson.

From Kumb on Udogie...

A sneaky bid? Slightly better than mid-table West Ham, of Bristol Rovers 1-0 West Ham fame, should put in a 'sneaky bid' for a player who's just signed a new 6-year deal at a club where he's playing the football of his dreams? Do they think if we don't notice the 'sneaky bid' Udogie will magically appear at their running track and start playing for them?

I guess that's what you can do when you're 'Champions of Europe' though.
I think the plonker was using that as a set up for his Udogie in the window joke that has never been done before.

then again it is West Ham and they did win the world cup soo....

The thing is we ARE in the top 6 trophy winners. Now we have the best stadium, generating the most matchday income and turnover. And doing it all organically not through oil money. We should be lauded, not criticized. Blows my mind how you slag of a well run football club doing it the right way but give City, Chelsea and Newcastle a pass. Weird people. It's never crossed my mind to dislike Villa, they're a big club with a great tradition and battling the oil clubs at the top and I'd be more than happy if they won it instead of City/Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea but comments like theirs make me change my view.

Based on this trophy haul, it makes sense why Villa see us as peers and hate us for having surpassed them in terms of club size (finances, support base, popularity, facilities) and they probably feel that they should be regarded as the top team among their peers (us and Everton) due to their Champions League trophy.

Everton doesn't have this attitude toward us at all even though they're part of that peer group and I respect Everton as a club and their fans as opposed to many on SC.

Villa just need to chill.

The internet is just the highway. It’s the DVLA that let the idiots drive on forums much like the Councils who let the racists on theTwitter Taxi

it’s a metaphor ok?! Not a good one but at least I tried.

I know its pedantic but it isn't a Champions league trophy.

great achievement in it's own right but a completely different tournament.

Villa haven't ever stepped foot in the Champions league which is why they aren't considered among the current big clubs in this country (historically they are)

Pretty sure they were only joking because they just wanted to add the punchline at the end

This talk about Everton , Villa etc being our peers isn’t true. Even someone earlier saying we’ve broken into the traditional top four and that’s why they do t like us? . How old are you? Spurs were always in the top 4 clubs with Utd , Pool and Arsenal. When Everton had success in the 80’s it became a big 5 in the press but that didn’t last long. villa , Everton , Leeds, Newcastle and West Ham are all similar size clubs . They aren’t our peers. We had a 15 year period under Sugar that was a real low but even during that time we had a few World Class players that none of the above have ever had.
support wise , if you study it and go back a 100 years we are way in front of all those with travelling support, home support and if you like modern day internet and armchair support. We have more Instagram followers than all those teams combined. Stop getting Spurs wrong. If it wasn’t for oil money the top 4 would still be the same. Chelsea and City cheated or got lucky whichever way you want to look at it . There is now a top 6. Villa , Everton, Newcastle are nowhere near as big as us. Ffs just look at the hate we generate.

While I agree with the sentiment of us always having been a big club it would be wrong for us to say clubs like Everton haven’t also been the same.

This goes both ways and credit where it’s due they have historically been our peers.

Let’s give it a rest on Whose got Bigger Balls. All fans think their team is better than others and it’s as pointless an argument as Who would win in a fight between a Horse and a Shark.

Good post. I first went to The Lane in 1967 and I can assure you all that we were a big, big Club then. Massive rivalry with Arsenal, United and Liverpool and we used to cram in well over 50k regularly. I remember one game against Liverpool when our attendance was officially recorded as 53k yet several turnstiles had been jammed open from about 2pm. Then, we and United were considered the best footballing sides by a country mile.

I often feel a little sorry for younger supporters who have endured very lean times and never appreciated just how fantastic this Club was once considered to be.

As a sidenote, I have never been more optimistic that we are on the verge of something really special. If we can put out our first XI a few times this season then I think it will be one of the best Tottenham teams I have ever seen.

I was there, 1971 FA CUP quarter final replay.
Liverpool beat us and went on to lose the final v Arsenal.
I think we finished a distant 3rd in the 1st division but we had won the League Cup v Villa

They beat us 0-1 that evening- I vaguely remember Ray Clemence making many super saves that night !
