Ange opted out, has a backup plan, but needs to vacate the Viking. The Connor deal appears doubtful unless Chelsea takes proactive steps.
Going for a youngest such as Wharton, Vermeeren or Hackney still makes the most sense to me but in general im still struggling to see PEH going this window.

Yeah, all of the clubs that seem to hold an interest in PEH, and in turn he would consider going to, are all skint.

It's a shame because although he's a decent player, it makes sense to both us and him to move on, there just aren't any takers who don't want something for nothing.

I don’t have any doubt about PEH preferring to move or Ange sanctioning it or us having options for replacement.

I just have doubts about anybody in Europe actually having the money + desire to pay what we think is reasonable for him in this window (or on obligation basis next summer)

Yeah that's the reason I'm struggling to see us getting a CM. I just don't see who's going to come up with the cash we want/need.

This is it. Most teams would be happy just to loan him and give him back in the summer. Seems the club want a loan+obligation or straight sale. I struggle to see any team in europe who is willing to make that investment in him.

Certainly don't see Connor happening by this point. But do hope we bring someone in as cover, given that we still have folks in AFCON, and this seems to be the year of muscle injuries.

As for PEH - dude has to know that only a PL team can afford him right now.

I like the youth route but when we had Hojbjerg and perisic coming in during the early games of this season. There experience got us over the line when we were struggling a bit at times. Bournemouth away was a prime example

Think this one's dead for this window and then it's a question of whether Chelsea offer him a new contract.
I think they will.

I think they’ll have to. If they don’t, they’ll risk losing him for nothing which only makes their FFP situation even worse.
The problem with that is that they'll have to offer him more money and being as he was a youngster not playing in the first team and being loaned out when he signed his last contract this new contract will have to be a hell of a lot more money and that will make their FFP situation even worse too.
With the players they've recently bought in on the contracts they are on Chelsea can't get rid of them so they are really stuck with selling their home grown club trained players.

The Shed End - gone back as far as their latest Premier League game which was a 1 - 0 win against Fulham at home.

  • No surprise, loose a game (they won?) and the middle age melts get upset and start picking on the better player across the season in our squad for kicking. Depressing reading some of the comments here. Lets try this, not going to be popular, but for 100 million, Enzo is mugging us off that he's a midfielder because he actually doesn't bring or carry any type of threat anywhere across the pitch. But sure, lets pick on the Cobham grad while waiting for your Male Hormone replacement therapy.
  • What are you classing as "threat"? Goals and assists stat no doubt. If it is goals then it is 4-0 to Enzo!
  • That's what I find the most ironic. Goals and assists being used against Enzo (and he'd have plenty of the latter if the attacking players did their job better) but our most attacking CM has 0 goals coming into January but is apparently our best player.
  • I thought he was really poor again today. He would be a nightmare to play with as a CM partner, he just doesn't play with any positional discipline. More of the usual running all over the place, getting in the way of players, taking up other players positions, charging out of deep areas trying to win a ball that will never be one and leaving a massive gap in midfield. A big part of the reason why look so disorganised is because of Gallagher, he is pulling the entire team out of shape. The commentators are blind and have no understanding of the game if they think running all over the place makes you "elite".
  • He offers absolutely nothing in games like this. If there was ever the perfect example of a headless chicken it's him. The difference in class between him in Palmer in the attack is ginormous. From physical, technical, and mental. For the first time Poch went bananas with him today for not acknowledging the attack and passing backwards but he's been doing this all season. If we've got the likes of Noni, Sterling, Mudryk, and Palmer available there's just no reason Conor should be starting in games like this when we need to break teams down.
  • It has all been said above. With Conor taking such critical roles in the team we will always be held back. I have the utmost respect for his effort and workrate, but Chelsea really need to move on. He is not good enough on the ball.
  • I don't like being too critical of him because I do like what he does offer and he's a perfect 12th/13th player in the squad, but his untouchable status and best player shouts need to stop.
  • Gallagher as a 10 VS deep blocks is one of the most painful watches in my life.

  • Love him , live his passion and drive but he’s not a starting 11 player in any time that wants to win big trophies. He’s a fantastic squad player!!
  • Connor Gallagher deserves so much better from this fan base than he's getting. It's really sad reading. Every manager who he has played for puts him in the starting 11. The clubs who will be in for him are all above us in the league and he has 11 more England caps than any poster on here. First name on the team sheet for me. this side needs his engine and tenacity. he's proven premiership experienced and will go up levels over the coming years.
  • With experience he will improve 100%.. especially tactically and decision making .. also his timing into the box.. lamps was similar age when we bought him.. wonder how we would have treated him. yesterday was not a great game for him but he seems an easy target for fans .. at times it feels some on here are more concerned about trying to be right than CFC
  • The lad is Henderson without experience. Would be silly to get rid of him because he's perfect for what he's good at, bringing energy and setting tempo
  • Issue is he doesn’t see himself as a squad player, that is where the hold up regarding his contract comes from.
  • £70m+ he probably goes, a penny less and its embarrassing. No way should we be paying more for Lavia than we get for Conor in this market.
  • I honestly think the club simply see him as another get out of jail free card. They've been wanting to get rid of him since last January. I think if an offer comes up like £40m (What Maddison was purchased for) the club will accept.
  • If a suitable offer comes in I think we should sell. Not a reflection on his passion or desire, but a view on his quality and output. Not everyone can play an 8+/10 every week, and Conor has been a consistent performer, but his best games seem to be when we are pretty bad. When we've played better has been much quieter. Difficult decision, but thinking about our ambitions and where we need to be in 2-5 years, to me he is a squad player.

  • Gallagher doesn't really have any highly sought after qualities which would interest a lot of clubs. Only really his workrate, which you could get from anyone really, that doesn't require talent. His passing, shooting, tackling, vision, etc... are all mediocre for this level. No-one is paying 70m for him. I'd be shocked if anyone paid more than 30m. That being said, we should probably keep him, since he's the only one who can stay fit.
  • Mount at 60 million was us pulling United's pants down. Gallagher has never been anywhere near the level as Mason Mount ever was here. No club would pay over 50 million for Conor, I wouldn't be in a rush to sell him as we need fit reliable squad players who work hard, but at the same time I wouldn't say no to an offer like that because we won't get another one as good as that.
  • You would have to be very lucky to get 50m for Gallagher so you would snap up an other like that. I just don't see how any top team would want Gallagher unless they see him as a cheap backup as 40m is cheap for the big clubs.
  • His ability as a footballer is being questioned on here. I’ve seen enough in him over the last few months to disagree. He’s no Pirlo but he’s much better than some seem to think.
  • As has been said, we accepted a bid from Everton worth £45 million a year ago. Anything less than £60 mill should be thrown out.

  • He's not just not world class, he's barely average. Everybody is deceived by him running around like an idiot thinking that makes him good. I've seen the exact same thing from hundreds of mid table players all of the way down to lower leagues. He's a passion merchant.
  • Another day another post trashing a CFC player. Honestly, why do you wake up every morning wondering how you can have a pop at a footballer on an internet forum. We know you think he's sh*t, not good enough, not talented enough, blah blah blah
  • Okay, I'll give you that. He's not a bad footballer, nobody gets to this level if you can't play football, but he's a very mediocre Premier League footballer.
  • The biggest thing he needs to improve on is his treatment of socks.
  • I am going to do some Gallagher bashing. I know. He covers the most ground, puts in the most effort, smiles the most, even has some great statistics, tackles won, loyalty strong and his devoted to the club he supported as a boy. All true. BUT, if you play as the advanced midfield player in any team you have to score a freaking goal every now and then. No end product. Get your sh1t together Conor.
  • You middle aged bastard, stop criticising our Conor, are you even a Chelsea fan? Come off it and get a grip, shocking behaviour this.
