About the third time I have forgotten he was an option.I genuinely forget he plays for us .
I think Bergvall coming in spells the end for him. If the offer is good it might make sense to cash in now but I'm sure he'll have better options in the summer. Like Hojbjerg I'm sure he will give everything as long as he's here though and perfectly happy for him to stay out the season. With our attacking options now Maddison is back I think we're more likely to play Kulusevski as a 10 ahead of GLC anyway. The pace and trickery of Johnson, Werner and Soloman gives us great options wide.
Bergvall is more an 8 so not sure his arrival will have much effect on Gio seeing as Ange tends to favour him as a 10. I also think there is a good chance Bergvall ends up being a 6 anyway. I still think it depends if he can stay fit. If he can remain fit than he is an excellent asset and has proved as much in his last few games but its just the question marks around fitness. I also think if your thinking of move Gio on for injury reason's then the same discussions should be had about Solomon. Also in regards to skill set Werner and Johnson are quite similar, all be it one is more developed, and im not yet convinced we should retain Werner for that reason. Ether way It will be interesting to see how Ange manages the squad now everyone is slowly getting back.I think Bergvall coming in spells the end for him. Solomon only just arrived and has had a knee injury. Lo Celso been here years and is always injured , apart from Argentina (apart from the World Cup)Bergvall is more an 8 so not sure his arrival will have much effect on Gio seeing as Ange tends to favour him as a 10. It would be such a waste for Bergvall to play that deep. Similar to when Modric played deep prior to Redknapp. His best attributes are further forward. I don't think GLC is really a 10 in this system anyway. He's always been more suited as an 8. He just doesn't play the same way that Maddison does. I think he's more box to box and doesn't have the ball playing ability in the final third for that 10 role. I think as an 8 he keeps things ticking along in midfield and gets stuck in. I would look to bring in a 6 in the summer and let GLC and Hojbjerg both go.Bergvall is more an 8 so not sure his arrival will have much effect on Gio seeing as Ange tends to favour him as a 10. From all the videos I’ve seen of bergvall it seems like he’d best be placed as a 6 in our system as they were saying he’s not a proper creative 10 kind of player but is very press resistant and can thread the ball through the lines. It would be such a waste for Bergvall to play that deep. Similar to when Modric played deep prior to Redknapp. His best attributes are further forward. I don't think GLC is really a 10 in this system anyway. He's always been more suited as an 8. In terms of Soloman, the only thing I would say is this is his first season. Unlike Sess and GLC who have been here a long time and had injuries every season. They're both coming towards their final year now so makes more sense to sell them in the summer.
Doesn’t really matter what circumstances we signed Solomon under the point about injuries remains. Just because a player wasn't at the club it doesn't mean his injury record doesn't matter. Last season Solomon missed 17 games through injury for Fulham and this season he has missed 18 for us. Further more he has had 3 injuries that have kept him out for over 100 days. Considering his age Solomon most certainly seems to be prone to injuries. Gio only had one injury last season. I am not saying Gio isn't prone to injury also, we know he is, but if your going to take his medical history into consideration then that should also go for others. The issues with Gio isn't that he is a bad footballer, on the contrary he is a very good one that has proved he suits the system very well, the issue is can he be relied upon. Considering that Solomon has spent more time out injured over the last two season then Gio has and also has a history of injuries im not sure I would feel comfortable about relying on Solomon at this point regardless of his skill set. Obviously we need to see how both cope with the reminder of the season and ultimately it will be a choice for Ange and the medical department to make.Solomon only just arrived and has had a knee injury. Lo Celso been here years and is always injured , apart from Argentina (apart from the World Cup)
Very different circumstances . I think we only signed Solomon because he was on a Bosman.
He is going to start off as a box-2-box - competition with Sarr, and to a lesser extent Bentancur. From all the videos I’ve seen of bergvall it seems like he’d best be placed as a 6 in our system as they were saying he’s not a proper creative 10 kind of player but is very press resistant and can thread the ball through the lines.
I saw plenty of videos of him getting into the box though. He looks good in the air as well. Maybe he'll be like Bentancur and play each role. I just think he needs to have a bit of license to get forward as he's so dangerous in and around the box. From all the videos I’ve seen of bergvall it seems like he’d best be placed as a 6 in our system as they were saying he’s not a proper creative 10 kind of player but is very press resistant and can thread the ball through the lines.
Turkey rumours seem to happen all the time with little materialisation.I'm fairly certain he ain't going to Turkey, so personally I'll just see how he goes injury wise for the remainder of the season and form a view then. Not sure there's really much mileage in discussing it now.
I know his injury record with us has been pretty bad, but I thought his record prior to joining us was fairly "standard" so to speak? So he's not someone like Sess who's been plagued by injuries for literally his entire career.
Bergvall has said in the past he can see himself as a 6 in future and i disagree it would be a "waste" if that turns out to be the case. Having watched him in full matches, not just highlights, I also think he looks most natural taking the ball from deep and moving it up the pitch, threading passes and dictating play from a deep lying position. In our tactics long term I can 100% see him in the 6 and taking control of the game from there. His ability to take the ball on the half turn, retain possession when under pressure, phenomenal vision, ability to read the game and being able move the ball upfield with a dribble all fit perfectly with that role in Ange's system. It would be such a waste for Bergvall to play that deep. I think the telling thing is that GLC is going to be down to 1 final year in the summer. I doubt we sign him on for longer. Given his age he should be a threat to the first team but he's only really a good squad player. I think regardless where Bergvall ends up we should look for one more in midfield this summer. I'd rather a squad player be a young prospect with the potential to be in the first team.Bergvall has said in the past he can see himself as a 6 in future and i disagree it would be a "waste" if that turns out to be the case. Having watched him in full matches, not just highlights, I also think he looks most natural taking the ball from deep and moving it up the pitch, threading passes and dictating play from a deep lying position. Ideally we would have an advanced playmaker sitting at the top and getting in and around the box, a B2B in between who puts in the hard work and a deep lying playmaker controlling and dictating the flow of the game. Ultimately if we play Bergvall in a 8 then we would need to drop Sarr and long term I think the idea has to be to build the midfield around the two of them playing together not rotating in and out. Maybe we could also consider dropping Sarr deeper but I think his athleticism really helps us control the centre of midfield. Sarr and Bergvall have different skill sets and Sarr has already proven how important his skill set is in the 8 position. As I mentioned in the Bergvall thread I believe they will compliment each other really well. Its the same reason that whilst Gio might be slightly better as an 8, unless we are playing against a team that sits back and parks the buss Ange likes him in the 10 because he want's someone more physically dominant in 8. A B2B.
Ether way its going to take Bergvall a few season's to get up to speed and its true he will likely start as a rotation option for Sarr or even a 10 but long term im inclined to think he will be a 6. As for Gio considering the amount of games we will be having next season it is certainly in our best interest for Gio to prove he can stay fit and stay next season because when fit he is an asset that clearly fits and understands the system.
Re Solomon as I say above, its about his history. That is the concern. Its all well and good judging a player purely on their time at the club but looking back over his injury history there are most certainly concerns there. If one is going to argue that looking back over Gio's past makes him unreliable as an option, which I can completely understand, that argument also has to go for others. If Solomon didn't have a history of injuries then i'd agree with you but he has only had one season since 18/19 season where he's been reasonably injury free which was in the 20/21 season. I posted a pic of his injury history in his thread and its certainly worth looking at.
My concerns with him do not come from a ability point of view. If anything Solomons is a complete unknown as we have no idea if he will suit the system or what he might bring to the table. In theory he should be a very good fit and hopefully both Gio and Solomon can prove their worth to the team over the reminder of the season.
