Not to put a spanner in the works either but Gio has a say too. He might fancy moving elsewhere and with only a year left not even European clubs can claim abject poverty this time. Or he stays for a year and then leaves for a nice payday in 2025.

He’s got 9 games to make a big impression. If he wants a move to a big club he has to push himself much harder. Or, if he wants to be in Ange’s future plans now is the time.

He looked like he had the eye of the tiger yesterday. And is it just me, or has he bulked up? Regardless, he and Benta were the difference yesterday in getting our midfield playing progressively.

Also puts pressure on Madders. Should know he is not undroppable.

Yeah if I’m him and I didn’t get a decent amount of playing time until the end of this season, especially with Maddison currently being off it, I wouldn’t have any incentive to sign another contract with spurs

Fair enough if that is your opinion, im sure you are not alone on that but by that logic we should also sell Maddison (11 games missed) VDV (12 games missed) and Solomon (25 games). Gio has missed 13 games thus far and when he’s played he’s performed very well.

We started the season with a blank slate for all the players. It is very clear that a number of our squad never fit the tactics of Conte, Nuno and even Jose. Gio has proven on the pitch he is good enough for the team, the league and he fits the system. I agree he has injury issues but he’s not alone in that and he hasn’t been significantly more than others this season. If you’re going to sell players purely because they miss over 10 games a season then he’s not alone on that front.
He's been with us since 2019 and has never been a regular. Let alone a mainstay in the team, which his enormous fee suggests he was bought for. He's a decent player but been bit part for his entire time with us.

Maddison and VDV joined last summer and are this manager's starters when fit. So your comparison is a bit absurd. If they are as often injured and out of favour as GLC over 4 years, we'll not want to keep them either.

I never set a 10 match bar, you have inserted that for some reason. He misses a lot of games, consitently, and that's a problem for him and us.

It's also not true that every player started with a fresh slate. They started with whatever prism Ange saw them through. Nobody forced Ange to give Ndmbele a decent run of games from a 'fresh start'.

And like Werner, I get concerned that we (fans) are wish casting too much after a player is given a good shot at making it with us. We'd love GLC to be the league's best #8 or #10, but there's no evidence for it. He's not even our best. And he's too injury prone and probably too expensive for the bench. We'd like Werner to have the killer instinct that propelled him to the big time. But evidence suggests we'll just keep watching him miss the target from good positions. We can persist with that, or try to do better.

That’s just not really correct though is it. GLC was a regular starter under Mourinho and was among our best players until he was injured. Spent the best part of two of the seasons out on loan because his style didn’t fit the Nuno/Conte defensive mould. On current form GLC will be putting pressure on Madds and Sarr which is exactly what you want from your squad. Just an opinion but Madds, Sarr or Kulu wouldn’t start for Argentina so think there’s plenty of evidence regarding his quality.

Werner is doing a hell of a job for us and contributing significantly, its not wish casting to think Werner could do a job for us going forward it will be evidence based and currently for 15m he looks a steal.

Too expensive for the bench based upon what? 70k a week is not too expensive and the fee we’d get would be small so define too expensive? He’s a dam sight better than any other back up 10 in the league bar alvarez. The players we could get to replace him would be very expensive so we’d end up spending a lot more to replace him, likely on bigger wages in a position that isn’t really a priority when we need a number of players still.
The fact is, under conte and Jose we wouldn’t even have bought vdv or maddison so comparing him to players bought for an attacking system which Gio is now thriving in is very unfair. Maddison injury problems were well known.
People in football form opinions on players (I’m guilty of it) and just stick to that opinion regardless of the evidence showing them they’re wrong.
Gio is playing better than maddison right now, he deserves a start agsinst West Ham let’s see how he gets on.

I said it before, and I'll say it again, he will be an idiot to stay or sign an extension contract

Are there reports he has been offered one?

to me he is not this messaih he is painted to be, he has flattered to deceive plenty of times and cant be relied on, BUT having said that its ridiculous he is getting so few minutes whilst others are given chances and have been poor for a while.

all i can think is that we definitely plan to sell in the summer and ange has one eye on next season so why bother committing to playing gio. Silly imo as whilst long term planning is good, we still need short term thinking to get us through these last 8 games.

Too much disrespect on him now, bringing Kulu on instead of him was a pisstake and led to us losing control of the game.

Think he is perfect for these tight games against compact opponents so surprised he hardly played tonight.

I think most probably expect him to leave come summer. Me personally I want him to stay but being realistic I think it’s unlikely.

What I find baffling is why he doesn’t feature more. Everyone knows PEH is going in summer, I mean we would have sold him last summer and would probably would have sold him in Jan if a good enough offer came in. Despite this he still features regularly because he still brings something to the game. Gio this season has also been an effective player. With that in mind even if he is off next summer surely he should be used accordingly. I mean he was brought on with 30 mins left on sat and was very good. He really should have had an assist but ether way he effected the game. Why not use him today. And if you don’t want to use him then why bring him on for 5 mins at the end. Honestly find I find it baffling.

Great point on peh’s use. Complete goes against why i think glc isn't playing. So in short we have no idea other than ange just doesnt fancy him.

I remain to be convinced or even slightly swayed to think Kulu is a patch on GLC in a central midfield role. Watching Kulu lumber around today in the midfield was a sorry sight.

For a player who has done very very little in a Spurs shirt he sure does have a ton of supporters who are convinced he is the key to us winning matches despite having almost no evidence that this is the case.

Seriously?
Yep. I think he is a good player but he just hasn't done it for Spurs since he joined so I'm always surprised at how many people seem to think he is the answer. Is this really a crazy thing to say?
